Working at the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) means being part of a supportive, innovative community that works towards doing what is best for students, and helping every individual achieve success. We proudly serve over 42,000 students across almost 100 elementary and secondary schools in Niagara, located between Lake Erie in the South and Lake Ontario to the North.
The Employment Consultant, Transition to Employment Program, working within the Continuing Education department, will assist individuals who identify as having a disability, secure and maintain employment. The successful applicant will be client centric, outcomes driven with a background in employment services.
Demonstrated ability to build strong professional rapport with clientele, conduct regular follow up, and maintain relationships;
Exceptional customer service skills with a focus on professionalism and a positive customer experience;
Experience in assessment, case management, addressing barriers, setting goals, and meeting allocated service targets
Consistent and concise file management in a dynamic environment;
Be adaptable, flexible and driven to achieve positive outcomes;
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Work 1-1 with individuals who identify as having a disability and are facing a number of barriers to employment, secure and maintain employment;
Assess employability of job seekers and prepare an employment plan based on that individual’s needs; outlining a plan of action to secure employment;
Foster potential in job seekers by providing hands on support during pre-employment training, employment seeking and on the job training and retention support;
Cold call, build and develop relationships with Employers and job develop to support job seekers in connecting to appropriate job openings and accessing the hidden job market;
Travel across the Niagara Region to meet with job seekers at a location operated by the DSBN and/or in public spaces most convenient for them; reducing barriers to accessing service;
Maintain accurate files, documentation and complete administration responsibilities as needed, including; entering and updating case notes in a client management software, follow strict file guidelines, use and update an electronic calendar, update shared spreadsheets using OneDrive;
Develop job seeker capacities by assisting in their independence and supporting in their independent job search activities;
Maintain a substantial caseload without sacrificing quality of service; meeting with clientele on a weekly to bi-weekly basis until employment is secured;
Work in partnership with other Service Providers, receiving and administering referrals in a professional manner
Promote and market program and DSBN to community partners and develop strong relationships with other Service Providers;
Work in a team environment, fostering the growth of team members and work collaboratively to support clients
Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Qualifications and Education Requirements
Minimum College Diploma in Social Services (or equivalent);
A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working in employment and/or social services, ideally with multi-barriered individuals;
Access to a reliable vehicle for regular travel throughout the Niagara Region;
Able to obtain a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
The contract position is anticipated to start ASAP, until March 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension based on openings and funding renewal.
