**MINISTRY CONTEXT**:
LIFE Recovery Association (LIFE) is a registered charity and Christian ministry that exists to support women in recovery from addiction. We provide abstinence-based programs in 4 homes in the Clearbrook Corridor of Abbotsford, BC.

**JOB SUMMARY -PRIMARY FOCUS**:
The Indigenous Peer Support and Outreach Worker is a new role at LIFE Recovery, funded by a Reaching Home grant. The goal is to enhance supports to Indigenous residents by:
1. helping to create a culturally safe environment

2. offering resources and direction to residents and co-workers

**3. **connecting with local service providers and potential residents

**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Identify knowledge gaps for the organization, staff and volunteers
- Identify culturally safe practices that would be complementary to the current program
- Provide LIFE with resources and information to enhance supports for women during pre and post admission and while in the program
- Create and facilitate a learning event for LIFE staff, volunteers, and residents
- Engage with local service providers including: Fraser Valley Metis Association, Stó:lō Service Agency, local bands, First Nations Health Authority and other similar agencies for resources for Indigenous women in addiction and recovery with a focus on relapse prevention
- Provide peer support to Indigenous women in the program
- Provide outreach services at LIFE’s thrift stores or those living unhoused near LIFE’s facilities
- Transport clients to appointments and offsite activities, as needed
- Support the general programming at LIFE with occasional Support Worker shift coverage (role description available on request)

**QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE**:

- Social Services Diploma with an emphasis on Indigenous studies
- Minimum of one (1) year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Strong analytical skills and decision-making ability
- Demonstrated ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential material and situations
- Current Class 5 Drivers License (minimum)
- Current Naloxone, Food Safe and First Aid Certification
- Sobriety of at least TWO years (no abuse of alcohol, drugs, or other mood-altering substances)
- Understanding of the impact of residential schools is key
- Understanding of generational trauma is key
- Knowledge of alcohol & drug and mental health disorders is an asset

- trauma-informed practice”

**Hours of work: 40 hours weekly, days of work to be determined based on community engagement opportunities and program needs.**

**Evening and weekends may be required in a 24/7 operation.**

**This is a 12-week contract with compensation of $35.00 per hour.**

**There are no deductions or employee benefits with this contract. You will be responsible for any payments or deductions required by the Canada Revenue Agency for earned income.**

**Preference will be given to Indigenous applicants who meet the hiring qualifications and experience.**

**Depending on funding, ongoing permanent employment may be possible at the end of the contract.**
