Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Financial Services for Facilities Management (FSFM), the incumbent will manage a team of Accounts Administrators and will be responsible for the monitoring and controlling of the University’s fixed asset spending (both operational and capital expenditures) in accordance with University procedures and guidelines. Accountable for developing and implementing strategies, providing financial information and analysis, evaluating business and financial implications of proposals, implementing and monitoring financial and accounting policies and procedures, developing and implementing financial controls, processing and monitoring of financial transactions. This also includes the provision of financial and accounting support for decision-making at the senior administration level, including strategic planning and advice.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Supervision of staff and the evaluation of the progression of assignments and results. Troubleshoot any problems staff encounters and provide guidance. Sets standards for level of unit services and provide administrative direction regarding the unit's goals and objectives.
- Develops and implements internal procedures, documentation, and controls to enhance the operation of the unit
- Responds to inquiries and resolves all issues related to financial administration (budget allocation, eligibility of expenditures, approval of over-expenditures etc.) of University’s facilities operations.
- Provides accounting services to support the recording and internal and/or external reporting of the University's financial position and ensures an accurate reflection of the University's financial position through the formulation, administration and implementation of generally accepted accounting principles, regulations and controls.
- Analyzes problems, determines course of action and provides advice to unit members on problem resolution.
- Participates in the implementation of new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the department/unit by keeping abreast of new developments and trends in the field of accounting
- Compiles data and produces specialized annual financial governmental reports
- Analyzes, prepares and reviews statistical and financial data for inclusion in internal and external reports.
- Prepares different internal financial reports. Analyzes reports and records, conducts reviews and makes recommendations on accounting issues.
- Prepares supporting documentation for internal and external audit request

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, internal clients and senior management team. Ability to work well under pressure in an environment with shifting priorities. Strong analytical ability to solve problems. Strong communication skills both written and spoken. Ability to work in a PC environment using advanced spreadsheet skills (i.e pivot tables), as well as experience with Banner (FIS), Workday, FAMIS, and Crystal Reports. Experience working in a University environment and familiarity with facilities and project management would be an asset. Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
