We are looking for a Mechanical Technician - Wind Tunnel Maintenance to support the Aerodynamics Laboratory within our Aerospace Research Centre. The Mechanical Technician would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to provide technical support in equipment maintenance in all related aspects to keep our testing facilities operational and safe. Under the supervision of the team lead, and at times under the guidance of other Technical officers, the role will include routine inspections of equipment, and safety equipment, preparing and assisting in upgrades, decommissioning, investigation, moving equipment using NRC vehicles or material handling equipment, oversee stock/order, assist with quote gathering, clean up, organize and assist with the design and fabrication activities, at our Montreal Road location.

Your hands-on assistance will extend far beyond an industrial workshop setting - it will include forklift and crane operation, basic carpentry, basic metal fabrication, equipment modifications, and of course, collaborative teamwork. The workdays are always evolving, and challenging but rewarding.

This position is for someone who has basic machine shop training and or mechanical ability but is looking to do more with their hands and mind by learning and growing into even more exciting responsibilities at our wind tunnel facilities. This position works within a team environment where effective interaction with staff is essential. **Screening Criteria**:
**Education**:
Graduation from a post-secondary program as a Mechanical Engineering Technician - Mechanical Engineering Technologist, Tool and Die or Tool Maker, Industrial Millwright, and possible trades with relevant experience or other related Mechanical Technology field.

An equivalent combination of work-related experience, training and education would be considered.

**Experience**:

- Experience in fabrication using metal and wood materials;
- Experience using a variety of hand and power tools;
- Experience with mechanical component installation, assembly, and disassembly;
- Experience in maintaining workshops in organized and functional conditions; and

**Assets**:

- Experience in materials handling including forklift and overhead crane operations and other lifting devices;
- Experience in working at heights and certified;
- Experience with other fabrication operations such as welding and carpentry;
- Experience in Industrial Plumbing; and
- Experience in working in Confined Spaces.

**Condition of Employment**:

- Secret (II);
- A valid driver's licence and access to the use of a vehicle are required; and
- Must be able to possess and retain the physical capabilities to perform the position’s duties which include but may not be limited to: crouching, bending, twisting, walking, climbing stairs & ladders, ability to hear to diagnose mechanical troubles, and the ability to handle heavy and bulky objects.

- Knowledge of safe work practices, tool handling, and safety standards required in an industrial environment;
- Knowledge of mechanical systems including mechanisms;
- Ability to fabricate from sketches, drawings, and work from technical manuals; and
- Ability to safely use a variety of industrial machines, metal saws, drill presses, drills, and grinders.

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

**Compensation**:
From $49,298 to $69,364 per annum.
