Associate Product Owner

The Associate Product Owner will support the product manager in maintaining the product vision and connection with business leaders, and manage the day-to-day activities required to lead the support and development of the product. This includes prioritizing the backlog, ensuring that development effort delivers the expected business value, ensuring adequate pre-release testing, and helping with escalated support issues. This individual will be the primary source of external information flowing to the development and support teams, clearly articulating required business outcomes and setting the tone for a positive and productive work environment. Your work may relate to one or more products.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Support the product manager and business leaders in defining the product vision, roadmap, and release cadence
- Create and maintain a product backlog by translating business needs into actionable user stories, understanding the business context and purpose for each story
- Prioritize stories based on the associated effort, business value, and dependencies
- Set the content of sprints to maximize the business value delivered from development effort.
- Define feature Requirements: and create prototypes
- Facilitate or support scrum events including the daily stand-up and retrospective meetings
- Create, maintain, and ensure execution of comprehensive testing scenarios
- Determine whether to accept or reject new features based on the defined acceptance criteria (definition of done), and be responsible for the business outcome of new feature implementation
- Maintain training standards and content to facilitate user on-boarding
- Work with the product support team to understand and prioritize defects, and define workaround solutions to meet business needs when necessary
- Deliver communication to product users about significant defects and new functionality
- Raise issues that impede the function or further development of the system to the product manager, director of development, and/or business leaders as appropriate
- Speak with product users, perform regular user observation, and perform analysis of product metrics to identify and champion opportunities to improve business outcomes and user experience
- Provide monthly and ad hoc reporting on business KPIs and product usage to the product manager and business leaders as appropriate
- Effectively communicate product release contents and expected product capabilities/behavior to stakeholder
**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies**:
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in computer science or engineering
- 1-3 years of experience defining and/or designing business processes and/or user stories
- 1-3 years of experience working in agile software development teams
- 1-3 years of software development and/or prototyping experience may be beneficial
- Demonstrated business impact from software that you worked on, supported by business metrics and/or personal references
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification and project management are beneficial
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships that encourage information sharing and the identification of opportunities
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written - including technical writing skills
- Good business acumen and the ability to make sensible recommendations for action that leads to business results
- Digitally savvy and creative, with the ability to quickly identify and elaborate on potential product improvements and the detailed Requirements: behind them
