**About Nourish Nova Scotia**

Nourish Nova Scotia is a registered charity that provides leadership and support to create healthy food environments for young people across Nova Scotia. Our goal is to support the nutritional well-being of young people and to nurture positive food experiences through experiential learning, connecting with others around food, and spending time in the natural landscapes from which our food comes.

**Overview of the Position**

Currently, we are seeking three Regional Garden Mentors to support the next phase of our emerging Grow Eat Learn Program - a garden program focused on supporting youth and students in school and other community spaces. We envision school and community gardens as health promoting spaces that enhance student wellbeing and community health, while being also spaces for learning about climate change, adaptation, and science.

Supported by the School Community Garden Project Lead, and working with the Indigenous Food Projects Coordinator, the Grow Eat Learn Regional Garden Mentors will engage with schools and communities across the province to foster a provincial network of garden spaces; collaboratively create, curate and share garden resources; and provide garden advice and consultation to a range of school and community based growing initiatives.

We are looking for skilled, experienced and passionate mentors who will work both independently and collaboratively as part of a five-person team to:

- Support school and community-based growing projects as well as student learning across Nova Scotia;
- Host workshops, learning events (in-person and virtual) and gatherings;
- Contribute to the development of resources, including workshop facilitation guides, curriculum and activity designs, and climate change education suitable for school and community spaces.
- Work with students and school staff/ partners to develop suitable garden or growing projects, as well as help build capacity for the schools to sustainably maintain the initiatives

**Key Responsibilities**:
Garden mentors will work within specific regions to help initiate and support the sustainability of a range of garden and growing initiatives in connection to schools and communities, while working collaboratively to foster a provincial network of growing spaces that together, support garden-based leaning related to food literacy, community well-being, and climate adaptation and resilience.

**Garden Mentorship**:

- Mentor and consult with school and community groups looking to revive or create growing spaces that can support experiential and inclusive learning opportunities for diverse children and youth.
- Provide coordination support for the development of one or more school community gardens/ growing spaces in the region of focus, and identify opportunities for infrastructure expansion, student and community engagement, and the development of garden and land-based programming.
- Create youth and student mentorship opportunities with schools, community groups and partners

**Resource Development and Activation**:

- Develop and deliver experiential learning opportunities (ie. workshops, garden tours, harvest events, etc.) within and across gardens and growing spaces.
- Collaboratively create and test youth-focused activities and resources geared toward developing climate-ready garden spaces and learning around climate adaptation and resilience.

**Network building and Knowledge Sharing**:

- Facilitate partnership development with surrounding schools, community groups and organizations to strengthen engagement (children & youth, organizational staff, and volunteers) within and across garden/growing spaces.
- Support the development and stewardship of a network of school community gardens across the province, through opportunities for relationship building, knowledge & resource sharing, and impact measurement.
- Support processes of quantitative and qualitative data collection to evaluate successes and challenges and adapt approaches along the way.
- Support capacity-building among partners to deliver environmental education related to climate-focused garden and growing spaces.

**Essential Skills, Experiences and Competencies**:

- Minimum 4 years gardening or farming experience in a professional or community setting;
- Demonstrated experience in community outreach, facilitation, workshop delivery, organizing, and capacity building including in an online environment;
