Under supervision of the Youth Programs Manager and consistent with the Vision, Mission and Values of the YMCA of Fredericton, the **Fredericton Y Ignite** Swim Coach is responsible for the overall organization, management and daily operation of the YMCA swim team program.

The Fredericton Y Ignite Swim Team is a newly created program and will train in the 25m pool at the Fredericton YMCA; 570 York Street Location. This is an exciting opportunity to develop a competitive swim program that aligns with the YMCA’s existing developmental swim program.

**Position Overview**
- Developing practice sets that are age and developmentally appropriate for their athletes.
- Supporting Swim Coach team with athlete development, practice planning and parent communication.
- Monitoring athlete skill development, swim meet event selection and character development.
- Coordinate with YMCA Wellness Professionals for dry-land training sessions.
- Communicate with swimmers and parents on team policy and activities, parental concerns, and swimmer progress reports.
- Maintain team roster and individual meet achievements for each team member using PoolQueue database system.
- Encourage healthy habits that are fundamental to swimming athlete development
- Attends all swim team functions (meets and meetings) and is responsible for conduct of team members and parents.
- Works closely with other YMCA departments including Aquatics (Swim Instructors, Lifeguards) Wellness (Group Fitness and Personal Trainers), Development (Fund raising and Community Outreach) and Membership (Membership Specialist team).
- Other duties as assigned.

**General YMCA Responsibilities**
- Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our mission, vision and values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the association. Represents the YMCA and the association in a professional manner.
- Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
- Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Skills & Qualifications**
- Minimum 1 year coaching experience, preferably at the Youth Competitive level.
- Recommended Coaching Certification: NCCP Competition (Age Group Coach, Fundamentals Coach) or ability to attain before September 1, 2024.

- Demonstrated competitive coaching skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with athletes with diverse skills and abilities.
- Strong organizational, administrative and computer skills.
- A pleasant personality together with a positive attitude is essential.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, get along and work well with members of the coaching team, athletes and their parents.
- Flexible approach to work; including evenings, weekends, and during some holiday times based on demands of the season.
