**LIFE TREATMENT SOCIAL WORKER**

**Classification and Salary**:SP3 $26.96-$34.72 / SP4 $29.73-$41.23 per hour

**Location**:Winnipeg, MB

The LIFE Treatment Social Worker is responsible for recruitment, retention, support and training of LIFE reunification caregivers. This includes the completion of home studies and annual reviews and meeting all provincial Regulations and Standards related to foster care. The LIFE Social Worker is expected to facilitate and provide all relevant training, guidance and tools for LIFE caregivers to work with and mentor the families in the LIFE home so that they can learn the appropriate skills for reunification. The LIFE social worker works collaboratively with the families, LIFE caregivers, family services and permanent ward teams and community collaterals to ensure that children and their parent(s) within the LIFE foster home placements are being provided with safe, nurturing and appropriate care. The LIFE social worker is expected to provide regularly written updates on the LIFE family’s progress and document any relevant information that would assist the social worker in the assessment of safety for the children in the LIFE home. The LIFE worker mentors and supports the LIFE caregiver to work with the LIFE parent to achieve and implement the goals identified in the case plan. It is the responsibility of every position to provide, where requested culturally relevant service or assist with access to such service.

**Main areas of Key Responsibilities and Activities**
- Conduct assessments of children, LIFE parents and LIFE foster homes
- Recruit, retain, support, train and provide guidance to foster caregivers
- Develop partnerships with internal and external collaterals
- Complete all reporting and administrative requirements

**Education and Experience**
- BSW and four years related experience working directly with families; or
- BA and five plus years related experience working directly with families;
- Previous experience as a family services worker or resource development worker is preferred.
- RSW is a requirement.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Demonstrated understanding of Metis and Inuit culture and communities.
- Capacity to assess risk, harm and danger to children.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong mediation and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong communication skills and reporting capabilities.
- Ability to complete home studies and foster home reviews.
- Ability to be flexible with hours of work.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain highly sensitive and confidential information.
- Knowledge of attachment issues and childhood development

**Registration with the Manitoba College of Social Workers is an asset.**
