The Indigenous Social Worker position focuses primarily on integrating indigenous knowledges, practices, teachings, and connections into the treatment planning and execution, developing and maintaining a two-eyed seeing environment, and providing front-line therapeutic services to children and youth in collaboration with social workers, family, and multi-disciplinary team members.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to perform assessments, coordinate client care, and provide treatment services for children and youth;
- Contributes to psychosocial assessments for children experiencing severe behavioural, social, emotional disturbances and serious mental illnesses, including substance use;
- Participates in planning, implementing, monitoring, and adjusting individualized treatment plans, including both individual and milieu, to incorporate culturally appropriate teachings and practices into the treatment model.
- Provide connection to home communities, supporting relationship restoration and improving natural support systems
- Facilitates psychoeducation and traditional sessions and individual child counselling according to a variety of models;
- Develops an awareness of each child's individual psychological, educational, physical, spiritual, and social needs and actively promotes these on behalf of the child;
- Actively promotes and develops a therapeutic milieu while supporting the treatment team in maintaining this environment;
- Provides guidance to front-line staff regarding the implementation of treatment plans through education, training, direct modeling, and feedback;
- Participates in case conferences and, provides advocacy and opportunities for involvement in Indigenous practices and community;
- Provides support and consultative services to Child & Family Service providers for continuity of care;
- Participates in service coordination meetings and advocates for client’s needs, providing a two-eyed seeing perspective;
- Helps to identify supports, both internal and external to the agency, including community resources, to support the treatment plan and youth’s development;
- Documents treatment plans and interventions according to charting standards, ensuring information is factual, legible and comprehensive.
- Contributes to the safe de-escalation of crisis situations, including crisis counseling and debriefing;
- Participates in group home/unit staff meetings to discuss program concerns, collaborative treatment issues and unit management;
- Demonstrates an active commitment towards professional growth and advancement through participation in training, workshops, etc.;
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- Master’s degree in Indigenous Social Work, Social Work, or relevant other discipline (i.e. Counseling, Psychology, and Marriage and Family Therapy) is preferred - a post-secondary degree specializing in social sciences may be considered;
- Minimum of three years’ experience providing clinical support to Indigenous, at-risk youth is required;
- Expertise in Indigenous culture, including participating in and leading cultural practices, programming, and ceremonies alongside youth;
- Experience in identifying culturally appropriate interventions and integrating Indigenous practices and teachings into holistic treatment plans;
- Experience working from a trauma-informed perspective is essential;
- Thorough knowledge of attachment theory, attachment styles, and the impact of attachment disruption and intergenerational trauma is essential;
- Understanding of developmental trauma is an asset;
- Knowledge and experience in issues and supports related to addictions, harm reduction strategies, and/or sexual exploitation preferred;
- Demonstrated experience and competence working independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, preferably working across agencies/systems in the provision of coordinated care;
- Mental health/crisis training certifications are considered an asset;
- Experience in the planning and facilitation of group therapy programs;
- Knowledge of planning, implementation and evaluation of client treatment plans;
- Must be comfortable and competent in crisis de-escalation and behaviour management;
- Comprehensive knowledge of children/youth services, Indigenous services, and resources available in Winnipeg and First Nation communities;
- Valid First Aid/CPR is required;
