**POSITION**:Library** **Page (Competition #2023-70/71)**

**LOCATION**: Norwich Public Library

**EMPLOYMENT STATUS**: Part-time (2 vacancies)

**REPORTING TO**: Branch Supervisor

**UNION AFFILIATION**: Non-Union

**WAGE RATE**: $15.50/hr.

Assists in maintaining a high level of library services to citizens in the catchment area of the branch by performing assigned tasks, especially shelving books and assisting with public service.

Hours of work: 1st Vacancy - Up to 17.5 hours. Must be available to work day-time, evenings and weekend hours.

2nd Vacancy - Up to 9 hours. Must be available evenings and weekend hours.

**Principal Responsibilities**:
1. Shelves books daily, being careful to maintain strict order, either alphabetically by author or according to Dewey number.

2. Assists with public service, for example circulation, patron registration, computer use, simple reference questions, photocopying, and reader’s advisory.

3. Assists with exchanges or requests as directed.

4. Searches for lost books.

5. Assists with circulation.

6. Assists with book displays, posters, summer reading, children’s programming, and other assistance needed.

7. Telephones patrons to inform of book requests, or overdue books, in an understanding and courteous manner.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- At least 14 years of age
- General computer skills and knowledge of Windows software are essential
- Must be able to work effectively with the public and other staff members
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with public libraries
- Creative thinking
