**About Us**

The Communications and Public Engagement Office, more commonly known as CPE, is the Government of Alberta’s consolidated communications agency. It provides communications services to all government departments through its central offices in Calgary and Edmonton and through branches embedded within government departments.

The bilingual English-French Communications Advisor works closely with the Communications Assistant Director or Communications Director and is responsible for providing senior professional communications counsel to the department in keeping with branch, client ministry and Communications and Public Engagement business plans. The Communications Advisor works with a large degree of independence providing total information development and dissemination to the Francophone Secretariat and other branches in the ministry. This is an advanced level of communications work. This Bilingual English-French Communications Advisor is a new position to support the implementation of the Government of Alberta’s French Policy and to increase communications available in French.

Agence de communication centralisée du gouvernement de l’Alberta, le Bureau des communications et consultations publiques fournit des services de communication à tous les ministères du gouvernement par l’intermédiaire de ses bureaux de Calgary et d’Edmonton et de divisions intégrées aux différents ministères.

Le conseiller ou la conseillère en communications, bilingue anglais - français, travaille en étroite collaboration avec le directeur adjoint ou la directrice adjointe des communications, ou le directeur ou la directrice des communications, et fournit au Ministère des conseils professionnels de haut niveau en matière de communication, conformément aux plans d’action des divisions, ministères client et Bureau des communications et consultations publiques. Le conseiller ou la conseillère en communications travaille avec un grand degré d’autonomie qui lui permet d’élaborer et de diffuser des renseignements au Secrétariat francophone et à d’autres divisions du Ministère. Il s’agit d’un travail de communication de niveau supérieur effectué dans le cadre d’un nouveau poste destiné à soutenir la mise en œuvre de la Politique en matière de francophonie du gouvernement de l’Alberta et à accroître le nombre des communications offertes en français.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Provides strategic communications counsel and professional communications support to senior management based on the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Status of Women’ business plan, and the Government of Alberta’s French Policy.
- Develops, implements and monitors communications strategies for internal and external audiences
- Provides strategic communications planning and consulting
- Creates and implements e-communications strategies
- Participates in cross-department and ministry communication committees as needed

Provides effective, proactive issues management support through the Communications Director to the Minister, Premier’s office, and senior department staff in accordance with the ministry’s business plan and French Policy.
- Identifies and monitors emerging issues
- Develops effective and timely strategies and key messages to proactively address and deal with issues
- Takes an active role in promoting the intent of the French Policy within CPE

Uses media relations effectively and strategically to support major communication activities in accordance with the department’s media relations policy and the Government of Alberta’s French Policy.
