**Role Responsibilities**:
Fire Weather Network Technician role involves overseeing and maintaining a real-time automated fire weather network. This network delivers data that adheres to standards set by the Canadian Forest Fire Danger rating system, the World Meteorological Organization, and Environment Canada. This data, retrieved through satellite and cellular modem connections, is crucial for timely and accurate data reporting is critical for evaluating and forecasting fire weather and fire danger conditions across Alberta.

This role manages a province-wide meteorological network crucial for government agencies and non-government organizations in making significant environmental and economic decisions. This data is essential for monitoring lightning strikes, precipitation throughout all seasons, wind speed and direction, air temperature, relative humidity, snow depth, net radiation, soil temperature, and soil moisture.

**As a Fire Weather Network Technician, your responsibilities will include**:

- Overseeing the site development, operation, and upkeep of the real-time automated fire weather network.
- Providing field support for the maintenance and troubleshooting of the Alberta Wildfire Lightning Detection System.
- Managing projects, schedules, and priorities to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the fire weather network.
- Coordinating with other agencies to ensure alignment and compatibility with similar networks, including Alberta Agriculture & Irrigation, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Water Survey Canada.
- Providing maintenance and support for the radiosonde system.

**Qualifications**:
Two (2) year technical diploma in science, technology plus four (4) years related experience; or equivalent as described below

**Equivalency**:Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year education.

**Additional requirements include**:

- Knowledge and experience with Data Collection Platforms, telemetry, calibration and monitoring equipment;
- Mechanics or construction experience to maintain and install weather and lightning stations, their components, and maintenance of a wide range of equipment (such as lawnmowers, generators, trimmers, trailers and assorted tools);
- Knowledge of electronic principles and the ability to use multi-meters and other tools to troubleshoot and isolate problematic components of a meteorological station;
- Computer skills for interfacing with station components (loggers, telemetry, instrumentation), maintaining and updating station metadata;
- Maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and a suitable Driver’s Abstract;
- Ability to work weekends, evenings or available for standby as required
- This position will require extensive travel across Alberta with periods of possibility of multi-day overnight periods away from Edmonton.
- Many of the weather stations in Alberta are located in areas with no road access therefore there will be a requirement for the positions to be able to travel in a helicopter.
