Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC) is looking for an Accounting Officer to join our team

AIOC bridges the gap between Indigenous groups seeking commercial partnerships in major projects and their financial capacity. AIOC has been delegated the authority to provide up to $1 billion in loan guarantees to reduce the cost of capital for Indigenous groups and to support their ability to raise capital to invest in natural resources, agriculture, telecommunications, and transportation projects.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Financial & Operations Officer (“SFO”), the Accounting Officer is responsible for performing: (i) financial functions, (ii) payroll administration, (iii) business and operational functions, and related administrative duties and works closely with senior management in supporting all employees. The Accounting Officer is essential to the organization as it is the foundation of AIOC’s financial reporting requirements, operational strategies, and efficiencies.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

FINANCIAL FUNCTIONS
- Processing accounts payable, code, enter, submitting for approval and processing for payment (invoices, P-Cards etc.)
- Creating and maintaining templates as needed.
- Completes and performs duties associated with accounts receivable, maintaining the general ledger, reconciliation of the bank account on a monthly basis and other related activities.
- Prepares and completes journal entries, accruals, quarterly and yearly reporting including but not limited to CEO & Board expense disclosure, annual compensation disclosure, forecasting, business plan, annual report, and budgeting.
- Assist with annual audit preparation as required.
- Additional duties as required.
- Complete any duties associated with audits through the OAG (Office of the Auditor General) as required.

PAYROLL ADMINISTRATION
- Management of payroll and benefits administration activities, including coordinating related activities with the Senior Financial Officer.
- Management and monthly reconciliation of time off track (accruals).
- Assist with the onboarding/offboarding process for staff.
- Management of year-end payroll processing (T4s and T4A’s).
- WCB (Workers Compensation Board) Management.
- Execute day-to-day processing of activities with a high degree of data integrity, confidentiality, timeliness.
- Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations impacting payroll administration functions to ensure that controls are in place.

BUSINESS AND OPERATIONAL COORDINATION, MONITORING AND EVALUATION
- Lead the coordination and monitoring of AIOCs budgets as required by SFO, forecasts, business, and operational plans. This also includes the development of the Annual Report and any related documents required.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 3-7 years relevant accounting experience is required.
- Leadership skills and able to work collaboratively in a team.
- Exceptional verbal and written skills with a strong ability to attend to detail and correct as needed to ensure accurate (e.g., articulate, clear, concise, grammatically correct).
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple requests, handle tight timelines, multi-task and re-prioritize work.
- Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization both internally and externally.
- Exceptional relationship building skills with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and must be able to anticipate and adapt relationship-building approaches to the unique needs of Indigenous communities and stakeholders and proactively build networks and respectful relationships.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Problem-solving skills to identify issues and develop solutions to highly complex and sensitive matters, including ability to foresee challenges and create innovative solutions
- Analytical and conceptual skills and ability to creatively problem solve.
- Ability to “think outside the box” has a proven record of accomplishment of creative problem solving and flexibility.
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples is an asset.
- Experience with a Crown corporation, public sector or professional association is considered an asset.
