Housing First Team Leader

Reporting to the Executive Director of Unity Project for Relief of Homelessness in
London (Unity Project), the Housing First Team Leaders (a team of three staff) support Unity Project in three functional areas: overseeing integrated Housing First casework; providing team leadership; and managing case conferences.
**PRIMARY OBJECTIVES**
The Housing First Team Leaders are responsible for the following objectives:
1. Overseeing Housing First Casework to help Frontline workers support residents to have the safest, short and most productive stay possible.
2. Providing Team leadership to ensure capable, confident, effective teams of Frontline
Support and Housing Stability Workers.
3. Providing the day-to-day support to staff ensuring effective emergency shelter and housing stability programs and services.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Overseeing Housing First Casework**
The Housing First Team Leader leads the implementation of integrated Housing First
casework that focuses on diversion, triage, housing-focused assistance, shared case
management, community integrated wraparound supports, and housing stability. The
Housing First Team Leader promotes collaborative responses for residents through the
mobilization of Frontline Support Workers and the development of a diverse network of
community partners. Specifically, the Housing First Team Leader:
- Leads implementation of internally coordinated and community integrated Housing First casework
- Oversees daily casework operations of Unity Project, including preparing staff
schedules, reviewing logs, and writing reports
- Develops productive working relationships with a diverse network of community
partners to promote collaborative responses to rapid housing
- Maintains a high level of knowledge of current issues which influences and
services the population served
- Leads case conferences to share challenges and progress of each participant
- Provides expertise in housing-focused case management to support successful
case conference outcomes
- Develops strategies that will maximize the effectiveness of service delivery
- Works with the City of London staff for intakes into the program
**Providing Team Leadership**
The Housing First Team Leader provides leadership to Unity Project’s Frontline Support
Workers and Housing Stability Workers and serves as an advisor and a coach to all staff
who provide direct support to residents. The Housing First Team Leader is a specialist
in assertive engagement and motivational interviewing, and has the knowledge and
experience required to train and coach other staff members on these skills. In this role,
the Housing First Team Leader:
- Provides leadership, management, and supervision to Frontline Support Workers
and Housing Stability Workers
- Mobilizes and coordinates efforts of frontline staff to encourage collaborative
problem-solving and build team culture
- Ensures frontline staff act in accordance with the values and principles of
Housing First
- Provides support to staff to assist in resolving complex cases in which staff are
unsure how to proceed
- Trains and coaches staff on Housing First and case management competencies
- Abides by the Unity Project Policy and Procedures and ensure staff are fulfilling
their job description and abiding by the organizations policies and procedures
- Conducts all work in a way that aligns with the goals, mission, and values of
Unity Project
- Attends and participates in training and learning opportunities offered through
the Unity Project and its partners
- Participates in the on-call supervisor system
- Participates in recruitment, orientation, training, evaluation, and discipline of
frontline staff
- Provides adequate supervision to Frontline staff, ensuring scheduling self to be
on site during morning and evening shifts
- Completes all documentation and daily notes according to agency procedures
- Provides monthly reports to the Executive Director
- Fulfills all agency required reporting and tracking processes to aid in agency
accountability, program and organization development
**Day-to-Day Program and Services**
- Ensures health and safety standards are maintained
- Seeks resident and staff input on the effectiveness and ongoing development of the Unity Project
- Responds to resident complaints and appeals
- Ensures proper documentation by staff of all in house logs, reports, and databases
- Monitors the scheduling, development, and implementation of Housing Plans
and duties may be added and/or altered from time to time at the direction of the
Executive Director
- Assumes Frontline Support Worker tasks and responsibilities when needing to cover a shift while on-call
