**Your opportunity**:
The Office of the Vice Dean, Medical Education provides strategic and operational leadership and support across the continuum of medical education, which includes the MD Program, Postgraduate Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development. We align and integrate learner supports and programs, faculty processes and systems together with the Temerty Medicine community, which includes over 30 hospitals and health-care institutions.

The Communications Officer will have an opportunity to translate the vision and mission of Canada’s largest medical school into a robust communications strategy. The officer will maintain and develop a portfolio of communication channels, and ensure a rich and diverse flow of content that includes news and feature stories, internal and external messages, newsletters, speeches and engaging social media content.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Advising on best practices and implementing strategic communication plans to promote Medical Education programs, events and strategic initiatives
- Writing and editing original content to advance communications objectives
- Drafting speeches and presentations, including for education leaders, to communicate priorities and enhance engagement with a range of medical education stakeholders
- Gathering relevant or newsworthy content and pitching stories of strategic value to others
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders regarding story development and cross-promotion activities
- Researching and recommending story ideas that are of strategic value and advance priorities and initiatives
- Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials and implementing a digital media plan that supports marketing/communications strategy
- Advising on best practices and strategies for website revisions and for social media trends, best practices and platforms to enhance digital communication strategies

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism or in a related field or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum four years of relevant experience in communications, public relations or media in a university, teaching hospital or comparable environment, preferably in a health professions education context
- Experience developing and implementing communications strategies and plans
- Experience managing social media platforms including building active engagement, expanding reach and using analytics and strategy to report on social media effectiveness
- Experience conducting interviews, translating scientific material, writing news and feature stories and speeches
- Experience providing strategicand innovative communications recommendations (online and print)
- Proven design capabilities, including experience with graphic design software and working collaboratively with external vendors
- Ability to identify good story opportunities;excellent research, interviewing, writing, editing, and print design/layout skills are essential
- Experience building and maintaining strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to create concise, effective written content, drawing from interviews with sources as well as translation of clinical and scientific material for a lay audience
- Experience delivering presentations and pitching stories of strategic value
- Experience maintaining and updating websites, informed by best practices
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Suite (i.e. InDesign and Illustrator) and survey tools
- Skilled in working with content management systems, web analytics and e-newsletter software
- Superior written and oral communications skills
- Excellent research, writing, editing, and print design/layout skills are essential
- A self-starter possessing the ability to work independently in a high-profile, time-sensitive environment while balancing competing priorities
- Must be creative, resourceful and solutions-oriented
