The Ministry of Municipal Affairs assists municipalities in providing well-managed, collaborative, and accountable local government to Albertans. Our main responsibilities are:

- Funding supports for municipalities.
- A system that strives to ensure appropriate safety standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment protection for new home buyers and required licensing for home builder’s province-wide support for access to public library services for Albertans.
- Independent review and decisions on local matters by the Land and Property Rights Tribunal.

**Role**:
Reporting to the Provincial Administrator Electrical, the Electrical Technical Advisor will provide consistent and accurate electrical technical advice, discipline specific information as well as general information to users of the Safety Codes system on a province wide basis. This position works within the Safety Codes Act and the associated Regulations, Codes &Standards, the Safety Codes Council Policies and Procedures, the Department's business plan and Departmental guidelines to provide clear definitive answers and to administer the government's responsibilities under the Safety Codes Act.

**Responsibilities**:
The main responsibilities of the Electrical Technical Advisor are (but not limited to):

- Provide electrical technical advice and information based on the Canadian Electrical Code, Part l (CSA C22.1), & Alberta Electrical Utility Code (AEUC) to municipalities, corporations, agencies, engineers, architects, electrical contractors, suppliers and the electrical industry in general as well as homeowners and the general public, in Alberta as well as other locations in North America.
- Participate in work site accident investigations as both support to Workplace Health and Safety Investigators to determine cause and preventative measures.
- Investigates consumer complaints regarding defective and or unapproved electrical equipment being sold, displayed or utilized in the province.
- Responsible to plan, prepare and present code and industry safety seminars as requested by the various segments of the electrical industry.
- Provides Departmental representation and participation in various groups and committees specific to the Electrical discipline at both the provincial and federal levels.

**Qualifications**:
Alberta Certification as a Journeyman electrician, Power Line technician, power system electrician, or recognized equivalent, plus 6 years of electrical field experience after receiving the certificate.

**Required**:
Qualification as an Electrical Safety Codes Officer Group A or B

**Assets**:

- Experience in the construction industry and administration of the Safety Codes Act and Regulations
- Knowledge of the departments policies and procedures for monitoring and mentoring

**Equivalencies**:

- Alberta Certification as a Journeyman electrician, Power Line technician, power system electrician, or recognized equivalent, plus 6 years of electrical field experience after receiving the certificate; or
- An Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma plus 8 years of related experience after receiving the diploma. The related experience must include on-site or field work related to wiring methods and installation; or
- An Electrical Engineering degree plus 8 years of related experience after receiving the degree. The related experience must involve field or on-site experience regarding wiring methods and installation.
