Greenhouse Biosecurity Monitor

Leamington, Canada One Floral Group Full time

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for undertaking the full range of biosecurity inspection duties for our Leamington and Kingsville facilities to control pests and the spread of disease to plants and the environment. This position requires the ability to communicate with various other departments daily to ensure the biosecurity plan is being effective and followed.

Education and skills required:

- Degree in environmental science, plant science, entomology or ecology
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a greenhouse environment
- Attention to detail
- Excellent communication and follow through skills
- Detail oriented and organized
- Ability to forge strong relationships with employees in other departments
- Ability to work extended hours during peak seasons
- Ability to adapt in a quick and positive manner
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks and requests
- Flexibility with schedule - hours may vary and be able to work extended hours during peak harvest periods, weekends, Holidays
- Team player
- English written and verbal communication
- **Primary Responsibilities**_
- Develop a detailed map of the place of production to visualize and identify potential sources or pathways of pest transmission
- Identify the risks to a place of production
- Review current biosecurity measures and help identify additional biosecurity measures that may be implemented at a place of production
- Identify biosecurity goals and establish a timeline for the implementation of the additional biosecurity measures identified
- Develop an implementation strategy, including communication, education and training of employees and visitors of a place of production
- Review and update the biosecurity plan as new biosecurity information becomes available or if there are changes within a place of production
- Inspect and monitor plants, cargo, water sources and products for pests
- Remove and destroy pests or arrange for them to be destroyed by pest control technicians
- Screen documents and imports to determine biosecurity status
- Deliver animal and plant biosecurity surveillance activities to ensure quick identification of new and emerging biosecurity threats
- Investigate chemical and contaminant incidents
- Sample agricultural produce and fertilizers for monitoring
- Remain in compliance with biosecurity legislation
- Communicate effectively with managers and supervisors to report areas or activities non-compliant with biosecurity laws

- Work is normally performed in a Greenhouse environment
- Ability to use various types of equipment to perform job duties
- Hours of work (shift as scheduled); full workweek with overtime when needed
- Ability to travel to visit facilities
