The Engineering Co-op & Career Services (ECCS) office supports all students in the Faculty of Engineering with experiential and work-integrated learning. McMaster’s Engineering Co-op Program is currently the 2nd largest program in Ontario, supporting over 7000 students annually.

**About the position**
Responsible for delivering career education programming and services to a wide range of undergraduate and graduate students, including full-cycle co-op experiences (pre/during/post work term). This includes, but is not limited to, job search support, interview preparation, contract negotiation, on-the-job check-ins, post work-term evaluation and reflection, and guidance on career choice, educational direction and goal progress using applicable career theories and pedagogies.
Purpose and Key Functions:

- Facilitate 1:1 conversations with students to support decision-making and career/academic alignment for enrollment in co-op.
- Provide 1:1 coaching and guidance to students in developing self-marketing and branding tools including, but not limited to, job search strategies, resume critiques, preparation of cover letters and personal statements, interview skills, networking, portfolio development, and negotiation skills.
- Coach and provide guidance to students on different career paths and options using applicable career theories and pedagogies.
- Develop, deliver and/or coordinate programming that supports the career needs of equity-deserving student groups.
- Conduct mock interviews by creating specific questions that are relevant to the field of employment students are pursuing and/or the position for which there is a planned interview, subsequently providing constructive feedback to students.
- Review and respond to students’ work term reflections to support students in realizing and understanding the alignment of their co-op experience, skill development and future career goals.
- Develop resources and provide 1:1 coaching to students to support reflective practice and strategic integration of career learning in high-impact co-curricular and extra-curricular experiences.
- Write a variety of documents, including, but not limited to, career and skill development materials, workshop plans, general correspondence, and reports.
- Design career and skill development materials and develop interview tools.
- Create, implement and maintain policies and procedures related to the program and career services offered.
- Facilitate and/or lead career development workshops.
- Deliver and support co-op pre-employment courses, including developing and

delivering course material, enrolling students, evaluating and assessing student learning and submitting final grades of completion.
- Leverage industry-specific knowledge through consultation with the Talent Partnership team to support student job search, assess suitability of job opportunities, and provide guidance to employer partners on effecive onboarding practices, on-the-job training and mentorship.
- Review and evaluate co-op positions as necessary for co-op credit eligibility. Approve or decline requests or determines appropriate alternative options that align with the student’s area of study and program plan.
- Negotiate the terms of employment contract with the employer and the student hires to ensure co-op eligibility requirements are met.
- Liaise between employer, student and campus offices/departments to ensure any accommodations or supports are in place and available for student on work term.
- Engage in weekly communications/engagements with job seeking students in support of their career success
- Facilitate work-term training opportunities to connect students preparing for work term with students on a work term.
- Conduct work-term check-ins and post-work term reflections and evaluations with students and liaise with supervisors at scheduled intervals to support student learning and address workplace or on-the-job issues and/or concerns.
- Coordinate with Talent Partnership team as required and in relation to employer issues/concerns and/or ongoing business development opportunities.
- Create promotional materials to market program to potential applicants, visitors, and representatives from other institutions at fairs and open house events
- Maintain accurate student records in the database and creates reports as necessary to monitor and evaluate students’ use of services from year to year.
- Keep abreast of labour market trends in relevant sectors including employer expectations related to skills, salaries and professional training.
