**Reports to**:Manager, Mental Health and Substance Use

**Salary**: $61,742.62 - $66,300.00

**THE OPPORTUNITY**

**Job Summary**

The Concurrent Disorders Counsellor works within the treatment team at the Phoenix Centre and is currently (or is eligible to become) a Registered Clinical Counsellor or a Canadian Certified Counsellor. The role supports positive outcomes for clients of treatment services through assessment interviews, case planning and treatment services.

- Process oriented group therapy

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Participate in team efforts to maintain and continuously improve the intake, admissions, and orientation process.
- Conduct integrated substance use services assessment interviews, act to ensure client’s privacy and preserves the confidentiality of client’s personal information.
- Maintain accurate client records reports, statistics on residents required for billing, reports required by supervisory position. Ensure that all required documentation is completed and on time
- Work with clients and the broader clinical team to develop care and action plans, monitor client progress, ad modifies treatment plans, as needed
- Act as a positive role model, coach, advisor, leader and rational authority for clients. Teach clients effective social and interpersonal skills through daily groups and through the tasks of appropriate daily living and social activities.
- Create and maintain a therapeutic environment following therapeutic community principles which encourage awareness of interdependence of community members, and the value of responsible concern for self and others.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of evidence-based modalities used to support and treat mental health and substance use concerns
- Respond appropriately and effectively to residents who are typically in various stages of change, have difficulty self regulating and problem solving, and who may have physical, mental, social, legal and financial problems.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of accepted counselling approaches i.e. solution-focused therapy, cognitive re-structuring, behavior therapy, client-centred therapy with the focus on building on the client’s internal capacity and potential to change.
- Facilitate psychoeducational, process-oriented group therapy, and lectures related to recovery planning, containment, emotional regulation, and continuing care.
- Participate in integrated services team efforts to improve the program including consultative processes with clients. Make arrangements for facilities and materials necessary for group sessions.

**THE CANDIDATE**

**Qualifications**
- Academic: Master’s degree in counselling or equivalent (Registered Clinical Counsellor or Canadian Certified Counsellor).
- Experience: At least three (3) year’s relevant work experience supporting individuals with substance use and/or mental health concerns. Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs and related provincial and community support services systems is preferred. Eligible for registration with relevant professional association.
- Satisfactory Tuberculosis Screening Certificate: current negative test
- First Aid Certificate with CPR: current
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check Review - through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Records Review Program
- Medical Clearance: from physician for work in residential care setting

**Skills and Knowledge**
- Experience with MS Office (Outlook, Excel and Word).
- Ability to multi-task and be flexible.
- Energetic individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- English: fluent and able to effectively communicate professionally, orally and written in English.
- Fitness: physically and mentally fit to carry out all responsibilities and duties. Program activities may require a moderate level of physical fitness in order to effectively carry out the duties of the position.
