- As a Corporate Environmental Specialist - Climate Adaptation, you will provide research and analysis into the emerging environmental, social and economic issues that will impact the City and community related to climate change in Calgary. You will assist the Climate Adaptation team in implementing actions from the Climate Strategy: Pathways to 2050 within the organization and community. Primary duties include:
- Coordinate climate adaptation information, and initiatives across the Corporation and with external organizations.
- Coordinate and analyze climate risk and vulnerability data to establish benchmarks and support strategic risk-based decision making related to climate adaptation.
- Design corporate approaches for the implementation of climate adaptation action including the identification of climate risks, vulnerabilities, climate equity and adaptive capacity measures.
- Analyze and develop climate policies, actions, tools and processes to assess and integrate community climate risk reduction considerations into infrastructure planning, environmental management, and service delivery.
- Lead, support and/or coordinate climate adaptation actions and programs in the community and for local businesses, often in collaboration with non-Governmental Organizations.
- Work in a team environment and assist the organization in its efforts to identify, measure and report on climate adaptation indicators and metrics.
- Support internal and external climate education and awareness as part of program management.
**Qualifications**
- A degree in Climate Change, Environment, Sustainability, Science, Social Science, Engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years of practical experience in project or program management, including at least 3 years of professional experience in climate adaptation and/or environmental or infrastructure program development and delivery.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is essential.
- A master's degree in the climate change, environment and/or sustainability fields will be considered an asset.
- Previous work experience in climate risk assessment will be considered an asset.
- Proven abilities in: critical thinking and analysis; strategic planning and leadership; collaboration and relationship-building; customer focus; sound decision making; quantitative and qualitative data analysis; and communication with a focus on effective presentation skills.
**Working Conditions**:Occasional site visits/ field work may involve outdoor or hazardous conditions.
