**PURCHASER**

Reporting to the Materials Manager, the Purchaser shall be responsible for the tactical procurement of commodities, supplies, equipment and services used by Meridian. The Purchaser coordinates his/her efforts with the MRP system, warehouse and production Supervisors in order to maintain the appropriate level of inventory. This individual will utilize expert knowledge to purchase goods and services at the most favorable price for Meridian, while simultaneously building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers. The Purchaser coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts and supplies for manufacturing facilities in Lethbridge and Camrose.

The position of Purchaser includes, but is not limited to the following job duties.

**Job Duties**
- Responsible for procurement and purchasing activities on assigned projects.
- Estimates values according to knowledge of market price.
- Prepares purchase orders or bid requests.
- Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
- Maintains manual or computerized procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
- Maintains accurate information for MRP System integrity
- Maintains minimum/maximum stock levels of raw materials to meet production schedules
- Active participation in development of continuous improvement programs as it relates to the procurement of goods and services
- Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
- May approve invoices for payment.
- Supports engineers, sales managers and cost accountants in preparations of estimates by contacting vendors for “budgetary pricing” for equipment and materials.
- Ensures that all administration procedures are followed and executed in a professional manner.
- Able to communicate with vendors, technical resources, and Clients.
- Must be able to work in a schedule-driven environment. Timing is a critical function.
- Must be able to manage budgets and avoid delay costs including shipping.
- Determines method of procurement, such as direct purchase or bid.
- Prepares purchase orders or bid requests.
- Reviews orders to determine product types and quantities required to meet demand.
- Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
- Other duties as assigned

**Requirements**:

- Certification in PMAC or APICS programs or working towards these designations, or equivalent, considered an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a purchaser.
- Demonstrated knowledge of purchasing and contracting techniques and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of MRP, WERPS and Business Management software systems and data entry.
- Demonstrates initiative. Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Requires a high degree of professional integrity, ethics, and confidentiality.
- Knowledge of accounting and budgetary practices and principles.
- Able to quickly calculate discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume.
- Considerable knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to corporate purchasing practices.
- Strong written and verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of the appropriate tools for grading, analyzing, and assessing materials, equipment, supplies, services, and other commodities.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong customer service orientation
