**About the Role**

The Board of Directors Member for Social Media & Marketing will provide strategic guidance and oversight in shaping the organization’s digital marketing strategy and social media presence. This position plays a crucial role in helping to expand the organization’s reach, enhance its brand presence, and engage with key stakeholders, customers, and the community across multiple digital platforms. As a member of the Board, the individual will contribute expertise in marketing, branding, and digital communication to help ensure that the organization meets its strategic objectives.

**About the Organization**

We are a community music and orchestra-training organization serving elementary through post-secondary-aged youth and has been running continuously since 2002. Our mission is to combine accessibility with a pursuit of excellence in our orchestral experiences and training. No child is denied music participation because of restricted financial means. Our instrument-lending library ensures children have quality instruments with which to learn. We at the Kawartha Youth Orchestra provide professional instrumental teaching artists and performers, hosts public education events, advocates for the Arts, and promotes social innovation partnerships that tie music learning and performance to community-building initiatives.

We aim to give our members a life-long love of music, while also helping them develop self-esteem, discipline, teamwork, leadership, performance skills, and a strong connection to their community through music. We currently run three ensembles - one for new musicians, an intermediate group, and a senior youth orchestra for developing and experienced instrumentalists. Since September 2021, we have run a subsidized music program downtown, which is an after-school ensemble instruction program for children, aged 6-18 years, facing pronounced socio-economic barriers. The program runs three afternoons a week and provides a daily nutritious mini-meal, a safe landing place for guided positive social interaction and leadership development, 1:1 attention and role modelling from caring adults, and skill development through ensemble instrumental music instruction.

**Responsibilities**:

- **Strategic Direction and Oversight**:

- Provide strategic advice to the Board and executive leadership regarding social media and marketing campaigns.
- Ensure alignment of marketing strategies with the organization’s long-term goals and mission.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging digital platforms, and marketing innovations to guide the organization’s marketing approach.
- **Brand Development & Advocacy**:

- Help develop, refine, and advocate for the organization’s brand identity, ensuring consistency across all marketing and social media channels.
- Act as an ambassador for the organization, using social media and other marketing channels to promote its mission and values.
- **Social Media Strategy & Management**:

- Collaborate with senior leadership to create a comprehensive social media strategy that drives engagement, raises awareness, and attracts new audiences.
- Advise on platform selection, content strategy, and community engagement initiatives.
- Guide the integration of paid social media campaigns, influencer partnerships, and public relations into broader marketing efforts.
- **Metrics and Reporting**:

- Ensure the organization measures the success of its social media and marketing efforts through analytics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Provide insights and recommendations based on data-driven analysis to improve marketing ROI.
- **Collaboration and Leadership**:

- Work closely with the marketing team and other board members to ensure effective execution of social media and marketing strategies.
- Participate in regular board meetings and serve on relevant committees to provide expertise and counsel.
- Support fundraising and business development efforts through strategic marketing and communications.
- **Risk Management & Compliance**:

- Advise on digital risk management, including social media policies, crisis communication, and reputation management.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, ethical, and regulatory standards in marketing activities.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Proven expertise in social media marketing, digital strategy, and branding, ideally in a board or senior leadership role.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok, etc.) and emerging trends.
- Experience with marketing analytics tools (Google Analytics, social media management platforms, etc.) and data-driven decision-making.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the organization’s brand effectively.
- Experience with crisis management and brand reputation protection in digital spaces.
- Previous experience in non-profit, corporate, or organizational leadership roles (preferred).
