**What is a Community School?**
A Community School is a school which offers programming beyond the typical school day. These programs are offered to children and youth in both the school and surrounding community, which is overseen by a Program Coordinator who reports to a Board of Directors. Our overall goal is to provide support for community members and their families and provide life-long learning opportunities for all.

**Position**:
While working alongside another Camp Leader, this position will be working with children, ages 5-12 in Central Elementary School. These children may be considered “vulnerable” and “at-risk”. Our Summer Program runs Monday through Friday, between 9am-5pm. Programs run for 7 weeks, from July to August, excluding B.C. day. We are in search of two individuals, 19+ to work Monday to Friday. We are hiring one part time, 20 hour position, and one full time, 40 hour position.

The Summer Camp Leader reports to the Community School Coordinators for day-to-day supervision. All CCECSS employees ultimately report to the CCECSS board of directors.

**Duties**:

- Work with groups of Elementary school-aged students in a school activity program environment
- Maintain a group dynamic building
- Establish trusting and meaningful one to one relationships with children
- Implement strategies such as planned daily activities

Organize recreational and social activities
- Help children identify personal strengths and interests
- Help develop and implement structured group activity programs
- Activities should be entertaining and have a learning outcome which promotes a healthy lifestyle
- While supervising participants follow disciplinary and safety procedures
- Liaise with parents
- Advise Community School Coordinator of any incidents
- Complete Incident Reports as required
- Respond effectively to all behaviors and engage in behavior management, safety and security

programming for young people in a variety of settings
- Complete written documentation as necessary

**Terms of Employment & Qualifications**:

- Strong organizational, time management skills.
- Extensive experience working with children in social, educational and/or recreational programs.
- Post-secondary Education in the field of Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or teaching at the Elementary School level.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Must complete a Criminal Record Check before employment starts
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture, previous experience working with "at risk" youth, and current First Aid are all assets

Compensation for successful applicants ranges from $18-$20 per hour depending on experience and skill set.
