- PCRS seeks a Substance Use Prevention and Health Promotion Facilitator to work as part of a Prevention and Health Promotion team within the Surrey and Langley communities.

- The Child and Youth Prevention & Health Promotion Facilitator is responsible for the coordination and operation of primary prevention programs for Children and youth in the Surrey and Langley communities. A broad-based health promotion approach is used in the development and implementation of programs. The goal of our P&HP programs is to provide meaningful and accurate information to the child and youth population to help youth make healthy lifestyle choices and decisions about substance use. In addition, P&HP Facilitator strives to help create healthy school and community environments and encourages youth to see the value of healthy lifestyle activities.
- The P&HP facilitator will identify strengths and substance use related themes in the school and community. This information will be used to collaborate with the school community and develop goals and strategies that reinforce strengths and resilience. Opportunities for youth to engage in healthier choices and activities will be developed with youth input wherever possible.

- Primary Duties
- 1) Screen, process and accept referrals, complete intake assessments and orientation as per policy, develop service goals in collaboration with youth and referring worker.
- 2) Provide referrals and follow up for youth to appropriate community services
- 3) Act as a positive role model and assist youth in developing values of honesty, self-assertiveness, and respect for others and lack of dependency on drugs
- 4) Offer presentations to contracted schools and community partners on a variety of topics related to substances, health, and wellness.

5) Develop, implement, and facilitate group sessions; sessions could include co-leadership with other staff or community professionals.
- 6) Collaborate with the contracted schools and district to provide workshops, large health promotion events and after school programming as determined by community needs.

7) Plan and participate in pro-social, healthy recreation activities with youth
- 8) Participate in and attend working groups, committees, agency, and school district meetings

9) Work collaboratively on large Prevention & Health Promotion initiatives with the P & HP team. These may include day camps, overnight summer camps, conferences, and other group projects.
- 10) As per policy and agency practice, collect, document, and maintain statistical information to report to team lead and funders as required
- Engage in supervisory meetings with team lead and report critical incidents immediately.
- Maintain health and safety of self, participants, and community; manage inappropriate behavior according to agency policy and practice.
- Attend all agency, team and school staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
- May be required to engage in evening and weekend work.
- Qualifications
- B.A. in a related field plus one-year related experience, or a Child and Youth Care Diploma plus two years’ experience, or a combination of related work experience/education with youth. Experience working in a school setting is an asset.
- Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector.
- Driver’s license (unrestricted)
- Use of own vehicle required. Paid mileage.
- Driver’s Abstract
- Sound judgement and effective interpersonal skills.
- Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written
- Substance use training.
- Group facilitation experience.
- Program development skills.
- Workshop development and presentation experience
- Ability to liaise with school staff.
- Familiar with working in a school setting
- Current standard first aid certificate

Additional Assets
- Specialized training/experience in health promotion or community development
- Knowledge and training pertaining to mental health, suicide and self-harm
- Learning disabilities training including FASD, ADHD, Early childhood education, special needs.
- Other certifications in recreation or arts
- Knowledge of trauma informed practice
