Parliamentary Interns for The Environment

Ottawa, Canada GreenPAC Full time

Are you a young leader with a passion for environmental policy and legislative affairs? Do you dream of working alongside Canada's top environmental champions in Parliament? If so, the Parliamentary Internship for the Environment (PIE) program is the opportunity of a lifetime

As a successful applicant to the PIE program, you'll receive a ten-month paid internship placement in the Parliament Hill office of a Member of Parliament (MP) or Senator with a proven record of environmental leadership. This is your chance to work alongside and learn from the best in the business

Not only will you gain hands-on experience and develop a deep understanding of the day-to-day workings of Canadian Parliament, but you'll also support current environmental change-makers of all political stripes. You'll write briefing notes on matters before Parliamentary committees, communicate with constituents, conduct research for Private Member's bills, and support MPs in meetings with stakeholders.

But that's not all You'll also participate in a range of **professional and leadership development programming**, including **travel opportunities, workshops, seminars, networking events**, and **fireside chats with expert speakers **from the nonprofit sector, industry, and government. Imagine rubbing elbows with some of the most influential people in Canadian environmental policy

And there's more The PIE program also offers two specialized streams for Indigenous and Sustainable Agriculture interns.**The Specialized Stream for Indigenous Interns **welcomes young First Nation, Métis, and Inuit leaders from coast to coast to coast to apply. The features of this stream were designed in collaboration with an Indigenous-led consultant to provide wraparound support and break down systemic barriers faced by Indigenous individuals in Parliament Hill. **The Specialized Stream in Sustainable Agriculture** invites young leaders from the prairie provinces with an interest and background in agriculture to apply. This stream aims to advance environmental leadership in agriculture and elevate rural voices in Canada's environmental space.

As an intern, you'll receive a monthly stipend of $2,750 for a total of $27,500 over the ten-month program. You can expect to work full-time hours (35-40 hours) weekly, mostly in the Parliamentary host office, with a few hours of GreenPAC programming each week. And don't forget about the September orientation program, where you'll get to know your fellow interns and learn about Parliament, the environmental policy landscape, and more.
