The Seniors Services and Long-Term Care Division enable residents in long-term care homes to have the healthiest, most fulfilling lives possible through exceptional care and services, enabling people to live with support and age with dignity. The Assistant Administrator provides effective leadership and management of the Administrative Support unit, Food and Nutrition unit, and Housekeeping and Laundry unit for the Seniors Services and Long-Term Care Homes.
**Major Responsibilities**:
- Develops, designs, and implements functional policies and programs that make major changes in overall performance of the Home's operation based on long-term needs.
- Directs and manages all activities relating to food nutrition, housekeeping and laundry.
- Leads and motivates a diverse workforce, ensures effective teamwork, provides resolution to controversial labour relations issues, ensures high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
- Supervises the day-to-day operation of all assigned staff including the scheduling, assigning, and reviewing of work. Authorizes and coordinates vacation and overtime requests. Monitors and evaluates staff performance, approves salary increments, hears grievances and recommends disciplinary action, when necessary, in consultation with the Workforce Management section.
- Serves as a support and resource for the Home in matter of HR and LR management, in collaboration with the Workforce Management Team, including hiring, termination in collaboration with the Administrator and the Workforce Management Team: scheduling, payroll, labour relations, investigations, and team development.
- Review, recommends and administers the annual budget for the unit once approved by Manager, Financial Services ensures that the unit's expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
- Ensures compliance with the provisions of applicable federal, provincial government legislation, the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, City of Toronto by-laws, Toronto Council decisions and Seniors Services & Long-Term Care policy directions and strategic plans relevant to areas of responsibility.
- Coordinates the Home information management systems by ensuring compliance with legislation - PHIPPA, MFIPPA and records management.
- Contributes to and supports risk management in the Home including monitoring employee relations, occupancy, revenue generation, budget preparation and controls, safety and security of the Home, public relations, customer complaints and submitting required documentation for divisional and Ministry of Long-Term Care (MOLTC) reports.
- Provides the Administrator with administrative and operational assistance in the management of the Home.
- Acts as a valued resource to the Administrator and other members of the management team providing expertise in functional areas including human resources management and labour relations, financial administration, technology, and procurement.
- Actively collaborates with other homes and corporate areas to continuously improve divisional performance.
- Leads the Home in the absence of the Administrator.
- Contributes to the continuous improvement of divisional performance through analysis and the development and implementation of sound management practices and procedures, provides program management staff with direction and guidance, processes, and tools to increase efficiencies and improve effectiveness of the services provided by this section.
- Applies strong understanding of Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation standards to ensure the Home's plan/operation supports these for excellence in customer service and continuous quality improvement.
