Purpose of the Job:
The Program Coordinator, Indigenous Cultural Safety, is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS) curriculum and resources that address the needs of Ontario’s healthcare system. This role will monitor healthcare trends, engage with Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, IPHCC members, and healthcare partners to ensure the training is culturally relevant, responsive, and impactful. The coordinator will also oversee the planning and delivery of ICS training sessions, both virtual and in-person, and support ongoing program evaluation.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum and Resource Development
- Collaborate with Knowledge Keepers, consultants, and Indigenous community members to create, review, and update ICS training materials and resources
- Ensure curricula and resources reflect Indigenous perspectives, meet healthcare standards, and address the unique needs and contexts of Ontario’s Indigenous populations
- Develop and manage digital and print resources, incorporating community feedback to maintain cultural relevance and program integrity
2. Trend Monitoring and Needs Assessment
- Track trends and changes within Ontario’s healthcare sector, including regulatory updates, to keep ICS training relevant and responsive to the needs of healthcare professionals
- Conduct needs assessments and feedback analysis to guide curriculum updates and identify emerging topics relevant to Indigenous Cultural Safety
- Make recommendations for curriculum adjustments based on trends, participant feedback, and healthcare developments
3. Partner and Community Engagement
- Coordinate meaningful engagement with IPHCC members, healthcare organizations, Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, and community representatives
- Organize consultations, focus groups, and meetings to gather insights and strengthen the cultural safety and applicability of ICS training
- Maintain strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous communities to support IPHCC’s mission and ensure their perspectives are central to program delivery
4. Training Workshop Coordination and Facilitation Support
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate logistics for virtual and in-person ICS training sessions tailored to diverse audiences, including healthcare professionals, educators, and social service providers
5. Evaluation and Continuous Improvement
- Develop and implement evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of ICS training and gather participant feedback
- Analyze evaluation data to identify areas for improvement and recommend curriculum or delivery adjustments
- Prepare and present reports to IPHCC leadership on training outcomes, feedback, and progress towards program goals
6. Project Management and Reporting
- Oversee project activities related to ICS program development, including resource allocation, scheduling, and tracking project timelines
- Support additional projects and tasks aligned with IPHCC’s Visions, Mission, and Values, contributing to a culture of respect, inclusivity, and reconciliation

- Comprehensive understanding of Indigenous communities in Ontario, including cultural protocols, healthcare needs, and the historical context affecting Indigenous health outcomes
- Knowledge of Ontario’s healthcare system and familiarity with cultural safety principles within clinical and community settings
4. Communication and Interpersonal Effectiveness
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas effectively to diverse audiences
- Experience in facilitating discussions, delivering presentations, and producing reports that are clear, culturally sensitive, and well-organized
- Find innovative solutions for program development and improvement.
5. Analytical Thinking and Adaptability:
- Skilled in analyzing feedback, identifying trends, and making informed recommendations to improve program quality and relevance
- Ability to adapt to new initiatives, respond to emerging needs, and ensure the ICS program remains aligned with IPHCC’s objectives
