**Job Description**:
1.0 Position Summary**:
Are Manager is a member of the Operations Team reporting to the Operations Manager. The Area Manager is responsible for managing departmental safety, development of production employees and ensuring plant production meets targets and quality standards in a Lean environment.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties**:
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on safe work practices to meet Safety and 5S targets
- Meet quality targets through the participation and leading improvements in all aspects of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost through the use of daily management, various Quality and Lean tools, and Process Problem Solving
- Execute the Manufacturing Plan - Complete production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel to meet Schedule Attainment and Past Due Targets, running to priority list and customer demand
- Maintain effective costs control to meet departmental budgets, labor, productivity targets and manpower requirements
- Participate in Lean Glass house and COQ to meet TCP targets
- Resolve personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action
- Communicate monthly Safety Talks as assigned by the Health and Safety Department
- Communicate changes to the hourly employees regarding policies and procedures
- Oversee time / attendance, vacation bookings and leave of absences for the dept hourly employees
- Develop and track employee training through the use of work instructions and trainer checklists
- Enter employee hours for payroll
- Print employee audits to verify hours and check audit from payroll for accuracy
- Verify production entries through audits printed daily
- Responsible for employee training (new hires and cross-training in the department)
- Troubleshoot any issues that are brought up in the daily running of the department
- Implement ergonomic improvements where possible - Identifying processes that may cause injury to employees and looking for new, user-friendly ways for operators to assemble
- Conduct new employee evaluations during the probationary period
- Maintain supplies for department (expense items)
- Administration of Collective Agreement including discipline and documentation of issues
- Participate in the ongoing continuous improvement of procedures and processes
- Maintains and lead standards of behavior within the context of Masco Canada’s conduct guidelines
- Prepare and present reports to team members and management as required
3.0 Health & Safety**:
- Maintain a safe workplace
- Wear Personal Protective equipment as required on the shop floor
- Ensure your team is wearing and using the appropriate PPE at all times
- Comply with the company policies and OHSA (Occupational Health & Safety Act)
- Ensure your team is complying with company policies and document and communicate issues
- Follow safe work and lockout / tagout procedures as required
- Report and Document unsafe conditions as soon as possible
4.0 Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the Masco Canada Product Compliance Management System.
5.0 Quality**:
- Follow all area work instructions and procedures in order to ensure quality standards are adhered to
- Report any potentially defective or damaged products or packaging to the quality dept and the supervisor
6.0 Autonomous Maintenance**:
- Ensure your team is completing their AM checks every day and are signing off on the checklist
7.0 5S**:
- Ensure your work area is maintained at required daily 5S standards
- Follow daily 5S standards as posted in your dept
- Correct any deviations from 5S standards immediately
**8.0 Daily Management**:
- Participate and lead the DM meetings and problem solving on a weekly basis as required
- Communicate issues at the cell level board as required
9.0 Standard Work**:
- Where applicable, ensure your team is following their Standard Work Sheet every day
10.0 Qualification:
- Computer literacy is required
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proven leadership ability
- Technical aptitude a definite asset
- Must be able to work bi-weekly rotating shifts, day, and afternoons
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate workforce in a unionized environment
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
11.0 Educational Requirements**:
- University Degree in Engineering/ Business/ Commerce
