Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief of Public Safety will provide leadership and guidance. This role will implement and promote Edmonton Fire Rescue’s strategic plan, fostering a culture of innovation, engagement, collaboration and respect. The Deputy Fire Chief is a leader that is essential to building relationships and believes that diversity of ideas, experiences and approaches is key to building the safest service for everyone. The Deputy Fire Chief will lead the work relating to public safety including fire investigations, fire prevention and public education and ensure these services are delivered and aligned with the vision of the Fire Chief and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. As Deputy Fire Chief, you:

- Lead with excellence and accountability for an inclusive, proactive, innovative, respectful and progressive culture in the Fire Service
- Foster a respectful workplace culture through a values-based influencer approach and work collaboratively
- Provide excellent leadership to the team through development and coaching, performance evaluation and feedback, health and wellness, safety, recruitment and succession planning
- Support the Fire Chief in the design and implementation of the strategic direction for the Fire Service
- Liaise with other fire services leadership and external agencies to facilitate collaborative relationships
- Support the other Deputy Fire Chiefs, Fire Chief, Deputy City Managers and Council by providing information and reports that allow them to make informed decisions
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships to foster effective problem solving and innovation
- Keep current with advances in business practices, technology and technical information to ensure the best value for services is delivered. Collaborate and liaise with internal partners, Canadian Codes Committees, Provincial Fire Commissioner, neighbouring communities, Edmonton Police Services, RCMP, Alberta Health Services and other agencies

Qualifications:

- Demonstrated ability to encourage perseverance and resilience in difficult times
- Ability to lead and manage change, build organizational talent and capacity, and achieve organizational outcomes
- Experience building healthy and positive workplace environments that enable staff to reach their potential while strengthening organizational capacity
- Ability to anticipate business opportunities, influence enterprise wide policy, planning and initiatives, and foster a culture of accountability through performance measurement
- Leverage experience or additional training in strategic management, policy development, public administration, government relations, project management and or change management will be considered an asset
- Training which meets or exceeds NFPA 1031 and NFPA 1033 and receives accredited standing as a Executive Chief Fire Officer (ECFO) which is the professional standing for the Canadian Fire Service is an asset
- Certification as a Safety Codes Officer (or ability to achieve)
- Able to effectively communicate and collaborate with a variety of partners and stakeholders including senior management, staff at all levels, union representatives, City Council, businesses, and academic institutions
