Southpointe is seeking an energetic, outgoing and collaborative teacher to lead and oversee the Diploma Programme (DP). The DP Coordinator is a key member of the Senior School Educational Leadership Team and receives 0.6 FTE release time. This role also comes with a significant stipend, in addition to the teaching salary and offers opportunities for professional development and career advancement.

Reporting to the Senior School Principal, the DP Coordinator will commence August 21, 2023 for the 2023-2024 school year.

Leadership

Work with the Head of School and SS Principal to establish strategic direction;

Meet bi-weekly as a key member of the Senior School Educational Leadership Team (SSELT), along with the SS Principal and MS/SS Vice Principal, to establish priorities to ensure continuous programme and curriculum improvement;

Assist with the development of a master DP timetable;

Assist with the SS Principal and MYP Coordinator, to establish a structured transition plan for students moving from MYP to DP.

Model a strong work ethic, high standard of commitment, and maintain excellent professionalism in all interactions with colleagues, students and parents;

Participate in community building events, both in and out of school hours;

Promote and support the mission, vision and values of the school.

Teaching and Learning

Support teachers and students in preparing for and understanding all required elements of the DP;

Ensure that the core elements of the programme - Extended Essay, CAS and TOK - are successfully implemented and continuously reviewed;

Mentor teachers and model effective inquiry-based teaching practices specific to the DP;

Participate in regular DP planning meetings;

Ensure the consistency and development of unit planners in each academic department;

Facilitate curriculum review and moderation processes for each academic department;

Ensure essential agreements are formulated for assessment and for all areas of learning;

Work with Learning Specialists to ensure student needs are being addressed through the DP;

Work closely with Department Heads and the PYP and MYP Coordinators to ensure curriculum articulation;

Oversee Ministry prescribed curriculum development in Grades 11-12.

Participate in professional development training related to the International Baccalaureate, Diploma Programme and other educational initiatives;

Design, prepare and deliver learning experiences that facilitate authentic engagement;

Maintain accurate, ongoing and complete records of student progress for the purposes of teaching, learning and reporting;

Communication

Ensure effective communication and collaboration among all DP faculty members;

Promote the DP both within and outside the school community;

Meet with parents and students to promote and explain the DP;

Write articles and give presentations pertaining to the DP.

Professional Development

Increase personal knowledge of the program; including, but not limited to networking, school visits and professional development programs;

Assess the professional development needs of DP teachers and coordinate their participation in DP workshops;

Induct new faculty members into the DP.

Administration:
Familiarization with the managerial responsibilities of a DP Coordinator, as they relate to the IB and BC Ministry of Education;

Familiarization with all DP examination and invigilation requirements;

Maintain regular contact with the IB and assume overall responsibility for administering, distributing, completing and returning all relevant documentation pertaining to the DP;

Establish and maintain links with other DP schools in the region;

Participate in the scheduling process to ensure the schedule supports student learning;

Assist in the process and quality assurance of reporting to parents;

Ensure copies of IB DP publications are available to the faculty;

Assist the DP teachers and Leadership Team in identifying resources including training to support the DP;

Notify the accounts department of any IB payments that are due;

The DP Coordinator will also be expected to perform other duties as assigned.

All Southpointe educators provide co-curricular activities for students by either devising their own programmes or participating in the school’s Athletics offerings throughout the three different sporting seasons.
