**Post-Doctoral Fellow - Field Phenotyping of Cereal Crops**:
**Primary Purpose**: To assist in leading research in data acquisition and processing for plant phenotyping under field conditions; incorporating research results into workflows of the University of Saskatchewan Field Phenotyping System (UFPS).
**Nature of Work**: Reporting to the principle investigator and working alongside research engineering staff, you will help to direct, manage, and lead research aimed at developing and implementing digital traits for plant breeding and physiology studies. An emphasis will be placed on wheat and cereal grains, detection of fusarium head blight and monitoring drydown. Work will be primarily in the office/lab however some seasonal field activity is expected. Periodic travel to collaborating research centres across Canada may also be required.
**Accountabilities**:
- Helping to define and develop research directions and plans within the context of the project
- Design, develop and optimize hardware and software for high-throughput plant phenotyping
- Integrate new systems with existing platforms and databases
- Provide leadership within the team in publishing of research results in peer-reviewed journals
- Communicating results to stakeholder groups
- Provide technical support for system end users and troubleshoot issues that arise
**Education**: Ph.D. in Engineering (Biological, Mechanical, Electrical or similar)Formal education obtained in a related field of study (diploma, certification or degree).
**Experience**:
- Strong background in design and development of hardware and software systems
- Experience with agriculture and plant phenotyping systems is preferred
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, Matlab, and C++
**Skills**:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude with skills in design and basic fabrication and assembly of mechanical, optical and electronic systems
- Skills in planning and scheduling work
