Central Supply Technician, or Central Sterile Supply Technician, overall responsibilities are to **sterilize medical equipment and instruments and prepare the supplies for use in procedures and surgeries**. May include:

- Initiating testing of Steam Autoclave Sterilizers, and maintaining documents as required and set out by MDRD (Medical Devices Reprocessing Department) Standard for Quality Assurance.
- Performs key functionality tests such as Bio Indicator (B.I.) and Chemical Indicator’s (C.I.) for reprocessing equipment, printer paper and outputs (e.g. cycle parameters, quality check as it relates to cleanliness and functionality, etc.) ensures proper equipment functionality.
- Oversee adequate inventory of supplies for the instrument washing solutions.
- Responsible for the appropriate transfer, receipt, documentation, storage, organization and processing of all surgical instrumentation, equipment, and other sterile supplies.
- Checks key inputs (e.g., detergent level, appropriate detergent/high level disinfectant type).
- Ensures guidelines and direction for staff processing dirty and clean supplies in the CSR (Central Supply Room) are accessible for reference.
- Ensures an appropriate decontamination, cleaning, preparation and assembly of instrumentation and supplies with strict adherence to appropriate departmental standards, policies and procedures to maintain safe patient care.
- Prepare and load carts for the Autoclaves.
- Prepare and package stainless steel sutures as per surgeon preference.
- Collect, package and/or wrap linen drapes, gowns and surgical instruments in bundles, and individual peel packs following Sterile Technique for use in surgical procedures.
- Pick additional items for surgical cases as per individual preference cards for surgeons.
- Pull and transport carts to the operating rooms.
- Replenish and stock used items on the shelves.
- Daily control and monitoring of inventory levels; ensures accessibility and replenishes sterile medical and surgical supplies as well as detergents and accessories for the reprocessing area.
- Ensures a qualitative output that meets the Hospital, provincial and federal healthcare standards and guidelines.
- Distributes supplies and equipment to the OR area.
- Stocks instrument room.
- Performs other duties consistent with the job classification.
- Supply Clerk duties include responsibilities for **orders, receives, and stores supplies in warehouse or supply room**. Reviews incoming order forms for proper coding, quantities requested, and authorized approvals; inspects and verifies supplies received against invoice and packing slip; initiates requests for vendor corrections. May include:

- Manage and replenish specialized items and regular stock items on the shelves.
- Generate inventory (physical) list(s) of supplies used.
- Reconcile inventory supply, use and availability.
- Place orders in a timely manner (i.e., monthly, quarterly, etc.) with appropriate suppliers.
- Familiarity with Pro-Health Contract, and other current vendors and suppliers.
- Oversee and manage invoices for processing payments.
- Perform monthly review of supplies, verify ratios are appropriate, investigate monthly budget discrepancies, pre-paid supplies, conduct prior period comparison and provide rationale for changes.
- Maintain Bio-Medical equipment and schedule repairs with vendors as required for the Operating Room and CSR.
- Co-ordinate purchasing of supplies with other departments in the organization.
- Perform other related duties and ad hoc projects for senior management as needed.

**Required skills and qualifications**:

- Successful completion of high school diploma.
- Current Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate from an Accredited Community College, preferably with a practical placement component.
- Good knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures.
- 1-2 years of recent and relevant hands-on experience in a Sterile Processing environment preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and surgical set requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of OR instrumentation and medical/surgical supplies.
- In-depth knowledge of aseptic methods and practices.
- Ability to take direction, work cooperatively in a fast-paced team environment, and work independently and prioritize workloads.
- Good understanding of quality control/assurance and ability to consistently deliver a high-quality product.
- Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to complete tasks within scheduled times.
