**Job Purpose**

The
**Design/Drafting Manager** will have solid experience in estimating, and the preparation of structural details, fabrication, and erection drawings while having the ability to complete projects with mínimal supervision. In addition, this role will require the Design/Drafting Manager to liaise with management and co-workers in a fast-paced environment while handling multiple projects simultaneously.

The Design/Drafting Manager will be responsible for the Design department consisting of two designers, estimating, restructuring overall management of department, analyzing, and providing solutions for optimal workflow, and improving project management and overall quality of drawings.

**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Taking expertise in Auto Cad/Inventor and extensive management experience - and create a strong design department through mentoring, growing, facilitating change, working with other management, research, input from existing employees, suggestions from current design team.
- Creating design process, training, expectations, implementing QC process of detailing
- Preparation of structural details, fabrication quotes, and erection drawings.
- Perform material take-offs, material lists, and Bill of Materials
- Detail and check structural steel and miscellaneous metal projects
- Review all working drawings and work orders
- Understand and evaluate errors on blueprints
- Design conveyors - structural steel, mobile welding, HDPE pipe fusion, heavy equipment repairs, large bucket repair, aggregate equipment welding, miscellaneous metals, heavy machinery repairs, etc.
- Collaborate with senior management
- Steel pricing from material take offs
- Developing relationships with customers/suppliers etc.
- Providing a “turnkey” design package to the fabrication department from concept to estimating to design and complete drawing packages with bill of materials

**Qualifications**:

- Must have recognized Construction / Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma or B.A.Sc. degree
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, and Microsoft Office products (Windows, Advanced Excel and Word, Project, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of weld symbols and standard detailing practices related to structural steel fabrication & construction, Engineering standards and building codes.
- Senior Estimating experience
- Custom Fabrication experience
