The **Sisterhood of St. John the Divine **seeks a:
**Dietary Aide - Dining Room - Part-Time (Regular hours plus additional hours)**

**Rate**:$20.52 / hour. Statutory benefits only. Free parking.

**Location**: North York - Cummer Ave and Willowdale Ave - approximately 1 km from Finch Station and on the #42 TTC Cummer bus route.

**Shift schedule** anticipated to be as follows:

- Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and some Public Holidays (7.5 hrs each).
- One weekend per month (Saturday & Sunday, 7.5 hrs each day)
- Ability to cover other staff shifts when they are on vacation (total approx. 9 weeks (5 days each) per year)
- Daily Shifts are 7.5 hours plus lunch break (on-site 8 hours), typically 9:30 am to 5:30 pm but occasionally adjusted slightly earlier (start 7am) or later (start 10:30am), depending on kitchen and dining room needs. This schedule may be modified from time to time.

**Purpose - **The food services team prepares and serves food for the Sisters who live at the convent and their guests. Hospitality is an important role of the convent and food is expected to be of high quality and served well. Food is typically self-served by patrons in a small buffet format. The number of guests at each meal is between 20 and 50 people. The Sisters of Saint John the Divine and their guests eat in silence, so it is important to be able to contribute to a calm and respectful environment.

This position prepares the Dining Room for meals and coffee breaks; runs the dishwasher machine; and ensures that the dining and dishwasher areas are clean, safe and well-organized. This position works closely with the cooks and reports to the Sister responsible for food services, and is part of the Food Services Team.

**Primary Responsibilities**
- Set up and tear down buffet and beverage station
- Refill and stock supplies; notify supervisor when inventories are low
- Prepare for next meal by cleaning and setting up furniture, utensils and dishes
- Wash dishes and utensils and place in storage when dry
- Follow daily, weekly, and monthly scheduled cleaning of furniture, floors, and equipment
- Follow procedures for safe handling of food and cleaning supplies
- Some final food preparation under direction of the cook or cook’s assistant
- experience in a similar role or relevant education
- experience operating commercial dishwashing equipment
- ability to read and compose written instructions such as WHMIS safety data sheets and written instructions to or from co-workers or supervisors
- ability to perform basic math for inventories
- ability to work with limited direct supervision
- ability to move through kitchen & dining room, pull, push, reach, and lift safely. Items handled may weigh up to 20 kg.
- ability to handle common food service cleaning products and chemicals safely and without adverse reactions
- ability to work and communicate effectively with others and raise concerns with respect and courtesy
- support for the Sisters’ values of community, prayer, quiet, hospitality and compassion
- proof of current COVID and influenza immunizations

**Physical Demands of Role**:

- Repetitive physical movement including cutting, chopping, stirring, scrubbing
- Ability to lift and carry trays of food and dishes safely
- Ability to lift up to 20 kg (45 lbs)
