**Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern Data Safety Analyst position in Montreal, QC**_ _**from May - August 2024.**

**Job Summary**:
As a Data Analyst in the rail industry, you will play a pivotal role in extracting insights from vast amounts of data to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and decision-making processes within rail transportation. You will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting data related to rail operations, maintenance, and safety to drive improvements and optimize performance across various facets of the rail network.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, clean, and analyze data from various sources including train control system live information and safety reports to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies.
- System Performance Monitoring: Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs) of train control system and analysis of safety functions and features in operation.
- Operational Efficiency: Identify opportunities to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve resource allocation through data-driven insights and process optimization.
- Safety Analysis: Conduct safety data analysis to identify potential risks, assess safety performance, and recommend preventive measures to enhance the system performance and requirements.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, engineering, maintenance, and safety departments to understand business requirements, provide analytical support, and implement data-driven solutions.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data analytics and rail transportation to continuously enhance analytical methodologies and tools.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in data science, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience in data analysis, preferably within the rail or transportation industry.
- Proficiency in data manipulation and analysis using programming languages such as Python, Microsoft Azure or SQL.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) for creating insightful reports and dashboards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Knowledge of rail operations, maintenance practices, and safety regulations is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
