**Yard personnel** maintain the lumber yard and greet and serve yard customers. Therefore, they need to be familiar with building materials, inventory locations, and yard equipment. They load and unload materials, storing them in the proper locations using a variety of equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, lumber carts, etc. It is expected this role will always provide and maintain a high standard of customer satisfaction.

The yard person must safely perform all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to avoid adverse impact on the level of customer service.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify and assist customers with advice, information, and/or help in gathering and loading, and confirming orders.
- Assist customers in handling large or heavy items.
- Ensure material loaded on customer vehicles is safe and make record of loaded material.
- Ensure any product being returned by customer is in good condition and recorded following company procedure.
- Maintain proper security over merchandise and delivery documents.
- Load and unload materials.
- Build loads to ensure timely and efficient deliveries.
- Receive incoming merchandise.
- Check incoming merchandise against orders or invoices, identify damaged goods, shortages, and back orders.
- Report any shortages, damaged goods, and back orders to your supervisor and/or the buyer.
- Store material in correct locations in the yard ensuring items are protected and not exposed to elements where required.
- Restock lumber bins, aisles, sheds, etc. when they are depleted.
- Resolve customer complaints.
- Keep the yard clean and the inventory covered, neat and orderly.
- Be familiar with the locations(s) of all inventory and equipment.
- Take all necessary safety precautions when handling freight, tools, and equipment.
- Be familiar with the safe operation and maintenance of equipment, including forklift, lumber cart, pallet jack, banding machine, etc.
- Be aware of theft and take action, in line with company policy, to report or discourage it.
- Deliver purchases when required and/or pick up returned goods.
- Make suggestions for rule, policy, and/or procedure changes when you think that such changes will improve efficiency, morale, profits, sales, etc.
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
- Work on any special projects assigned by your supervisor, after determining their priority in relation to your other duties.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.

EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED
- Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with customers, management, and employees in person or by telephone.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings.
- Must be alert to all yard activities to help customers, use equipment properly, help in loss control and yard safety and security measures, etc.
- Must read and comprehend written and printed materials, as well as information presented in numerical form.
- Must safely operate yard equipment and tools, including forklift, pallet jack, lumber cart, banding machine, radial arm saw, etc.
- Must move materials weighing up to 100 pounds to or from the yard, placing them on or removing them from trucks, pallets, etc.
- High School graduation or equivalent.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Report directly to the yard operations manager.

**Job Types**: Part-time

Schedule:

- 5-32 hours per week
- Day, Evening and weekend availability

Pay: $16.60-$17.60 per hour

Expected hours: 12 - 32 per week
