**Welcome and Safety Attendant**

**JOB DESCRIPTION**:Pay Group TBD**

**1. General**

Reporting to the Visitor Experience Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for improving the entry experience of the Museum during a period of renewal and transition, providing welcome, assistance, direction and supervision throughout the welcome areas of the institution. In addition, the incumbent will provide the Museum with information regarding visitor usage of washrooms to inform future decisions regarding visitor experience from a community safety perspective. The incumbent must exercise initiative and judgement in working with visitors, guests, inquirers and/or community members. Fluency in both official languages is an asset.

**2. Key Accountabilities & Typical Duties**

**A. Priority 1: Welcome and direct all visitors in the entry area or lobby (40%)**

To facilitate a positive museum experience for visitors, guests, inquirers and/or community members.

i. Assist in wayfinding in the entry area or lobby.

ii. Direct visitors with inquiries about events and programs to the Receptionist or Visitor Experience Supervisor.

iii. Provide crowd supervision and direction for the general public and school groups in the entry area or lobby including the washrooms and Museum Shop.

iv. Maintain a constant staff presence in the entry area or lobby.

v. Communicate visitor feedback and report usage of spaces based on provided metrics

**B. Priority 2: Washroom Monitoring and Usage Data Collection (40%)**

To provide data about entry area or lobby washroom usage.

i. Record information regarding entry, period of usage, and state of washrooms based on metrics provided through direct observation but discrete monitoring.

ii. Monitor activity in the entry area or lobby washrooms to ensure rules and guidelines are followed and community safety is maintained, and alert Security Guards in the event that help is needed.

**C. Priority 3: Other duties as reasonably assigned (20%)**

ii. Liaise with 211 and other community partners for referrals to external social services in the community.

iii. Scan entry tickets when the Security Guards have to handle other tasks and concerns.

**MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:
**1. Skills, Abilities and Knowledge**

i. Very good communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to be tactful and diplomatic when dealing with the public.

ii. Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

iii. Ability to work in an organized and directed manner.

iv. Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of proper business demeanour, including conscientiousness, reliability and punctual attendance.

v. Ability to work split shifts and evening shifts as required.

vi. Knowledge of other areas of the Museum (interpretive programs, education, collection & conservation etc.) is considered an asset.

**2. Education, Training and Experience**

i. Grade XII education, and

ii. A minimum of one year of experience working with the public or

iii. An equivalent combination of education and experience

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 4 months

**Salary**: $15.55-$18.94 per hour
