Job Posting - Developmental Editor and Staff Writer
The primary responsibilities of this role are to assist in the development of postsecondary humanities textbooks through a range of editorial tasks, including drafting and revising content for the books. The primary focus will likely be materials for English and composition courses; responsibilities may also include work on materials for course texts in philosophy, political science, or other disciplines.
Responsibilities may include:
- Writing introductory material, explanatory notes, and/or other content for undergraduate anthologies and textbooks intended for English, composition, and other humanities courses
- Creating supplemental pedagogical materials, such as PowerPoint slides and quiz questions, to accompany Broadview textbooks
- Proofreading and revising the written work of others
- Preparing accurate texts by thoroughly checking them against original copy-texts
- Performing administrative and organizational tasks associated with the production of books
- Has a postsecondary degree in a humanities discipline (a Master’s degree or PhD is likely to be an asset, but applicants with Bachelor’s degrees will be considered)
- Has excellent research, writing, and critical thinking skills
- Can write in a student-friendly, professional style consistent with that of a project’s other contributors
- Has a strong understanding of pedagogy and the needs of postsecondary students (teaching or tutoring experience is likely to be an asset)
- Can give and receive feedback on writing in a friendly and open way
- Can work both collaboratively and independently
- Can balance the demands of quality and efficiency in managing time
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
Details regarding the position:
- Runs from February 1, 2024 to February 23, 2025
- Full time, 37.5 hours per week for the length of the contract
- Remuneration will be in the range of $45,000 to $47,500 per annum. The employee will also be covered under Broadview’s benefits plan (extended health, dental, etc.) after a three-month waiting period. In most years Broadview employees receive a modest year-end bonus; the employee will be eligible for any company-wide bonus payments
- Work hours are business hours, Monday through Friday
- The position is intended to be in-office; hybrid work arrangements may be considered depending on the successful applicant’s circumstances
