Empties Worker

**Purpose and Summary of the Role**

The Empties Worker helps fight hunger on Vancouver Island by helping with the day to day sorting of Empties 4 Food to generate revenue for Loaves and Fishes Food Bank.

**Supervision**

Is responsible to the Executive Director. Over the coming months the Empties Worker will be responsible to the Director of Operations or Warehouse Manger.

**Responsibilities**:
a. Ensure empties are sorted according to established method and criteria.

b. Run skid steer.

c. Train and lead volunteers to sort empties.

d. Motivate and thank volunteers.

e. Maintain a clean and organized job site at 1861 East Wellington.

f. Other duties as required.

**Review**:
A trial period review will take place with the Director of Operations within 3 months of starting the position. An annual review will take place in February of each year with the Director of Operations and Director of Personnel Development.

**Terms**

Permanent, Full-time

Hours: 40+ hours per week (Hours can vary on an as-needed basis).

Pay: Starts at $24 to per hour plus benefits after 90 day probation.

Vacation Time: 2 weeks paid (must be applied for in writing using the appropriate form).

- Strong organizational skills and a keen sense of how our operational systems work and are integrated.
- Strong interpersonal and people management skills, and an ability to give and receive direction in a positive manner with a diversity of individuals, including other staff, agencies, volunteers, donors and clients.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision, yet able to work well with the others.
- Practices and models creativity, problem-solving and system improvements with other staff.
- Understanding and appreciation of the role and importance of volunteers and volunteerism.
- Valid Driver’s license.
