**Job Summary**

Reporting to the Manager, Tax & Assessment Policy, this position is responsible for the protection and enhancement of the assessment base, to ensure growth and stability while maintaining the integrity of the classification of assessment. Responsibilities include maximizing tax revenue due to change in property usage and representing the City’s position through the appeal process.

**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Review annual assessment rolls to identify anomalies in assessments with respect to classifications, dollar amounts and effective dates
- Identify the City’s assessment growth trends, errors and anomalies, and correspond with MPAC to confirm actual growth to the assessment base
- Ensure that information relating to new land usage, building permits, zoning changes, Pre-servicing Agreements, new registered plans, or changes in building usage is conveyed to MPAC and are reflected properly in the assessment roll
- Represent the City at the Assessment Review Board (ARB), as an advocate and/or a witness
- Prepare and present the Corporation’s position, including review and preparation of Statements of Issues and City responses to assessment appeals
- Perform other duties and special projects as required.

**Requirements**:

- Post secondary education in Business, Finance, Economics, Urban Planning or a related discipline is preferred;
- At least three years of relevant experience in assessment administration
- A designation or equivalent professional accreditation in a recognized Appraisal/Assessment Institute or Association would be an asset;
- Advanced knowledge of provincial and municipal statutes and regulations, pertaining to assessment, taxation, with the ability to interpret and explain complex legislation;
- General knowledge and understanding of Zoning By-laws, Official Plan, Planning Act and the planning process;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment;
- Ability to multi-task and manage a high volume workload with a high level of accuracy, adhering to tight deadlines;
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on customer service
- Must possess a valid Class “G” Driver’s License.
