**Position Description**:
**BeACoN Group: Biomarkers to Advance Care for Neurodevelopmental disorders.**
Autistic people and those with related neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) have poor mental and behavioural health outcomes and little access to evidenced based care. Poor understanding of underpinning mechanisms limits our ability to accurately evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions and treatments. Clinical heterogeneity requires stratification approaches to develop new therapeutics, clinical trial design and clinical treatments. Multimodal approaches are required to progress clinical biomarker development to inform evidenced-based and personalised care. The vision is that individuals with autism and related NDDs will have better behavioral and mental health outcomes through more precise evidenced-based therapeutics and care.

**BeACoN Research Mission**:

- To develop and validate stratification and treatment biomarkers of mental health and behavior for autism and related NDDs to personalise treatments and measure outcomes.
- To ensure our research is accessible and relevant through strong participant involvement and co-creation and engages the NDD community.

**Research Program**:
The BeACoN research group uses multimodal approaches incorporating genomics and deep phenotyping. We investigate associations between genomics and cognitive, behavioral and mental health outcomes in large population-based data sets and rare syndrome cohorts. We use genotype-first deep phenotyping strategies in individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders involving brain-based (MRI and EEG), neurocognitive and behavior characterisation to identify endophenotypes to aid stratification and to ultimately inform clinical biomarker development.

**Neurofibromatosis Research Group**:
Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) is a neurocutaneous autosomal dominant disorder caused by mutations affecting the neurofibromin gene (NF1). NF1 is associated with an increased risk for neuropsychiatric conditions such as learning disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Our research aims to obtain integrated insight into the cognitive, developmental and psychiatric profile of children with NF1. We also plan to explore mutation-specific effects on this phenotype, specifically on autism. We expect that results of this study and subsequent research will contribute to better care for the NF1 population, and to the elucidation of biological underpinnings of the NF1 neuropsychiatric phenotype. Such insight will likely have ramifications beyond NF1 as it will also further our understanding of genotype-phenotype mechanisms in individuals with other high-impact pathogenic variants and our general understanding of the pathophysiology of ASD in general.

**The opportunity**:
**Here's what you will get to do**:

- Track, administer and score cognitive, developmental and behavioural assessments for children and families from their initial entry to the program through multiple, follow-up assessments.
- Complete structured clinical interviews and assessments (with training and supervision).
- Administer eye-tracking based cognitive paradigms (with training and supervision).
- Collect EEG data (with training and supervision).
- Generate clinical summaries and reports of psychometric results in order to provide feedback to the assessing psychologist and the inter-disciplinary healthcare team.
- Manage assessment results for clinical and research purposes.
- Clean and enter data into clinical and research databases.
- Contribute to the generation of research reports, data analysis and manuscripts.
- Administrative duties as assigned.
- Honor the hospital administrative policy and privacy requirements.

**Here’s what you will need**:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferred) in Psychology or related child development field from an accredited university
- Knowledge of child psychosocial development and psychopathology.
