**WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?**

You will:

- Interpret and portray the life, work skills, and activities of an 1860’s farmer/farm hand at Loucks’ Farm.
- Assist with the general tending and feeding of all livestock (e.g., horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, oxen) in an historical manner.
- Assist with cultivating and harvesting crops using historical practices and techniques.
- Perform several manual skills including scything, adzing, handle-making, fence building, milking, etc.
- Interpret village life and the features of a small rural 1860’s village.
- Provide visitors with information about structures, settings and activities throughout the site.
- Participate in the delivery and instruction of experiential youth programming.
- Act to ensure the safety of visitors and staff and protect the resources of the site.
- Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.

**HOW DO I QUALIFY?**

MANDATORY:

- Oral proficiency in French at an advanced level
- Oral proficiency in English

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

You have:

- Knowledge of a wide range of historical farming skills, e.g. hand-milking, adzing, binding grain, scything, etc.
- Experience tending to and caring for a range of livestock (cattle, horses, oxen, sheep, pigs, poultry).
- Knowledge of agricultural history including historical farm equipment.
- An understanding of the social, economic, and political environment to a level typical of a farm worker of the 1860’s.
- The ability to perform the physical tasks associated with this position.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

You have:

- Strong oral communication skills to engage visitors in the interpretation of the work, skills and activities of an 1860’s farm worker and respond effectively to customer questions and concerns.

- effectuer plusieurs tâches manuelles, notamment le fauchage, le maniement de l’herminette, la fabrication de manches en bois, la construction de clôtures, la traite, etc.
- interpréter la vie au village et les caractéristiques d’un petit village rural des années 1860;
- renseigner les visiteurs sur les structures, les installations et les activités de l’ensemble du site;
- participer à la mise en œuvre de programmes d’apprentissage concrets pour les jeunes et à la transmission de notions;
- veiller à la sécurité des visiteurs et du personnel, et à la protection des ressources du site;
