**Agronomy Educator**:
**Primary Purpose**:
The Agronomy Educator will develop a workshop, in collaboration with Faculty and staff members in the College of Agriculture and Biosciences and the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrology (SIA), to introduce international, out-of-province, or non-traditional agrologists or agrologists-to-be, to the specific context of agriculture in Western Canada and Saskatchewan.

**Nature of Work**:
The primary responsibilities of the Agronomy Educator will be to plan, research, design and implement an educational program comprised of online self-paced modules followed by an in-person weekend experiential learning workshop. Content covered will include, but may not be restricted to, the agroecological characteristics of the Canadian Prairies, colonization and Indigenous history and current challenges, demographics and common practices used in agriculture in the region, rail transportation and its implications, current issues and research in agricultural sustainability, as well as registration as an Agrologist and responsibilities.

The Agronomy Educator will report to Dr. Maryse Bourgault and will be located in the Department of Plant Sciences. Other duties include project management support and reporting on activities as required by the Cyril Capling Trust and the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists. The role is best suited for someone who can work independently and collaboratively, has strong communication and organizational skills, and can effectively balance priorities and deadlines. The work will involve overnight weekend travel at least once for the first delivery of the experiential learning activities.

**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:

- ** **Develop a workshop comprised of online self-paced modules to address the context of agriculture in Saskatchewan and the Canadian Prairies, followed by in-person experiential activities. Workshop development will include curriculum mapping, researching content, and creating instructional material.
- Deliver first in-person weekend activities, collect feedback, and reflect on possible improvements for subsequent deliveries.
- Acknowledge contributions from the Cyril Capling Trust and the SIA in instructional materials and presentations.
- Assist project lead in overseeing project deliverables and accountabilities, including assisting in writing interim and final reports.
- Assist project lead in planning transition of this workshop to a microcredential framework within the University of Saskatchewan.

**Qualifications**

**Education**:
A Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, plant sciences, agroecology, land and resource management, environmental sciences or other related degree. A Bachelor’s degree in Education or other relevant degree may also be considered with at least two years of professional experience in the agricultural industry.

**Licenses**: Must possess a valid Saskatchewan drivers’ license or equivalent.

Registration as a Professional Agrologist is considered an asset.

**Experience**: At least two years of work experience in agricultural education, preferably in the Canadian Prairies. Experience in research and/or the University environment would be an asset.

**Skills**:

- ** **Developing educational content in agronomy or agriculture, at the post-secondary level or above.
- Developing and delivering experiential learning activities.
- Knowledge of Canadian Prairies agricultural systems and current sustainability issues.
- Understanding of First Nations history, culture and current issues, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to reflect on the Canadian culture, communication style compared to other locales. International or out-of-province experiences may be considered an asset.
- Searching, reading, and summarizing peer-reviewed and grey literature.
- Translating technical knowledge to a broader audience.
- Collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines.
- Working independently, managing multiple tasks with tight deadlines and competing demands, and delivering quality work on time.
- Writing reports of activities and expenses.
