**SUMMARY**

Under the direction of the Financial Aid Advisor, the Financial Aid Student Assistant - Former Youth in Care, will assist with projects, events and general office duties related to supporting Former Youth in Care students at KPU and to help with increasing Provincial Tuition Waiver Program (PTWP) awareness.

Former Youth in Care (previously known as former youth in foster care) are individuals who have had experience in government care in British Columbia Care as defined by the BC Child, Family, and Community Services Act. Many of these Former Youth in Care students will have care experiences that meet the eligibility criteria for the Provincial Tuition Waiver Program.

**PRINCIPAL DUTIES**:

- To assist in planning and implementation of KPU events to provide support for Former Youth in Care students (e.g. workshops, social events, etc.).
- To assist with developing, revising, and updating digital and print resources (e.g. guide, toolkit, website, etc.) for around wrap-around supports available in the community.
- To help in promoting the Provincial Tuition Waiver Program and other supports by assisting with communication materials and distribution of promotional materials.
- Assist with other small-scale project-related tasks as required.

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Must be enrolled in a certificate, diploma, citation, or degree program at KPU
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Positive attitude and reliable
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal)
- Knowledge of resources and supports available to Former Youth in Care students an asset.
- Lived experience as a Youth in Care / Former Youth in Care is preferred
- **Salary Information**

Student Assistants are paid as per the following:

- Less than one year of post-secondary (less than 30 credits) - BC Minimum Wage
- One year of post-secondary (30-60 credits) - BC Minimum Wage plus 8%
- With a post-secondary diploma or degree - BC Minimum Wage plus 21%
