As a Category Manager, you are responsible for crafting and implementing category-specific strategies to achieve profitable sales and meet customer needs. To make sound product mix decisions, you will analyze and interpret market trends, category success, and other variables affecting category profitability.

Scope of Authority

This position reports to the Senior Director of Category Management and Marketing.

You supply your ideas and recommendations for:
Planograms, development, and implementation
New listings, discontinuation, or replenishment (rationalizing SKUs)
Developing product mixes that drive category sales and increases gross profit
Retail pricing, promotions, and program strategies
Strategic vendor partnerships

Breadth of Responsibilities

Category Growth

Lead within an assigned category budget
Achieve P&L and GM dollar for assigned category
Implement product assortment, buying strategy, and spending plans in order to achieve category profit targets
Continuously review financial targets throughout the year and adjust strategy as needed

Strategic Category Development

Source new products through active industry search and vendor meetings
Build planograms and analyze the efficiency
Continuously evaluate category efficiency, adjust product mix, program, promotions, merchandising strategy, or costing/pricing strategy
Communicate product mix changes to cross-functional partners
Liaison with the Manager, Food Safety to ensure product quality and vendor adherence to production standards

Product Analysis

Review daily product reports including average cost, buyer shortage details, late deliveries, items on hold for purchasing/sale, new listings, price overrides, and items sold with a negative margin
Research and analyze consumer buying trends as it relates to product sales and profitability within your category
Evaluate item movement reports within categories to ensure maximization of profitability

Vendor Relationships

Build and sustain vendor relationships
Arrange and lead vendor agreements to increase partnership value
Continuously seek ways to collaborate with vendors to drive profitability
Follow-up with vendors for out-standing payments to Georgia Main Food Group

Price, Promotions, and Programs

Build outstanding item promotions for weekly and monthly flyers, proof all ad features
Conduct data entry deal sheets and ads, develop ad themes (including sourcing photo samples), and proof worksheets and flyers
Direct retail and promotional pricing strategy to improve sales and gross profit
Review vendors spending programs and evaluate independent strategies based on category goals
Assist with the development and implementation of programs, including seasonal programs (5 per year)
Plan and communicate programs to vital cross-functional partners and supervise execution at the store level
Collaborate with suppliers on programs, seasonal contests, display incentives for stores (as advertised in the flyer), and strategic launch plans for new products

Replenishment Activities

Lead some aspects of store ordering including blockbuster tallying, verifying inventory levels, identifying shortages and discrepancies, validating costing, adjusting product bookings before submitting to customer service, following up on store bookings, communicating late deliveries, issuing reorders, and providing invoice reconciliation
Review shortages and adjust promotions, while presenting to cross-functional partners
Update discontinued items, vendor changes, and product UPC changes in the system
Lead all aspects of distributer changes including communicating with new vendors on start date, current distributor's final date, Ad activity verification, and coordinating appropriate documentation requests
Coordinate product re-calls and ensure products are pulled from the store in a timely manner

Key Performance Indicators

Achievement of financial targets (gross profit for specific category and store P&L)
Alignment of category action plans with strategic organization goals
Cross-functional communication and collaboration (category success, inventory control, marketing, and product safety)
Timely analyses of categories to optimize product mix
Category contribution to overall customer experience and dedication
Store agreement and knowledge of new product introductions and category strategy

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
5 + years of operations experience (Retail industry or Grocery industry preferred).
Strong operations professional with a related university degree.
Great teammate, self-motivate
