**About Us**:
The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences (CNS) is a diverse, city-wide, clinical academic department at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Faculty members are located at Western University, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), and Parkwood Hospital of St. Joseph's Health Care, London (SJHC). The Department has research affiliations at both the Robarts Research Institute and Lawson Health Research Institute.
The vision for the Department of CNS is to be the acknowledged Centre of Excellence for the international standards in stroke prevention, complex epilepsy surgery, brain aneurysm treatment, malignant brain tumor and degenerative and neuromuscular disorders in Southwestern Ontario with a mission to translate clinical research into treatment and provide regional consultation within interdisciplinary models of care.
**Responsibilities**:
The Financial Officer is responsible for ensuring effective and efficient financial administration, and for providing financial, accounting, and budgetary support within the department. The role will facilitate the implementation of financial processes and practices in compliance with the policies, procedures, and legislation applicable to the University, Hospitals, Research Institute, and AFP Governance organizations, which affect physician clinical and non-clinical remuneration. The Financial Officer will compile relevant data, and conduct timely and accurate financial analysis and reporting. The role will be a first point of contact and act as a resource in relation to all accounting, financial, procurement and budgeting processes for the department as funds cross-institutional boundaries and affect operating and grant funding.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- Undergraduate Degree; major in Business Management/Administration is preferred
- Completion or working towards Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
**Experience**:
- 5 years in a finance related position
- Experience in an academic, health care or public sector environment would be an asset
- Experience in accounting or bookkeeping preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated understanding of financial analysis and planning
- Demonstrated understanding of financial guidelines for research accounts
- Demonstrated understanding of complex reporting and accounting issues
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices
- Familiarity with University and Hospital policies and procedures preferred
- Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
- Analytical skills to accurately interpret and integrate report data from various sources
- Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
- Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
- Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
- Ability to collect and discern relevant data to create reports and recommendations
- Ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Adapts readily and effectively to changing priorities and demands
- Computer skills with the ability to creatively use and integrate technology to improve quality and productivity
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to collect and analyze data in an objective manner to make appropriate decisions and recommendations
