- As a Plant Operator 1, you will work with leading edge technology, assist with the hands-on monitoring and maintenance of the operation of wastewater treatment processes and contribute directly to the protection of watershed. Primary duties include:

- Inspect equipment that is not monitored by the Distribution Control System (DCS) to ensure correct operation.
- Monitor remotely the automated DCS and inspect your assigned section to ensure that data is credible and within process parameters.
- Operate equipment and use manual tools to ensure equipment and systems are operating properly.
- Collect influent and thickened sludge samples and forward to the lab for analysis.

**Qualifications**
- A High School Diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED).
- At least 1 year of post-secondary education or the equivalent 45 Continued Education Units (CEU) as recognized by Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA), in a field related to water or wastewater treatment or leading to a 4th class Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) power engineering certificate.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Previous experience and/or training as a Plant Operator, a Power Engineer certificate of competency, or a certificate of qualification from AEPA in Wastewater Treatment will all be considered assets.
- Success in this position requires applicants to hold safety as a value, as working safely is critical in all tasks performed and, in all decisions made.

**Working Conditions**:Working in the water treatment plant where Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.

**Pre-employment Requirements**
- A security clearance will be conducted.
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

**Pre-employment Drug Test**: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
