Under the general direction of the Traffic Signals Engineer, this position is responsible for the planning, work scheduling, supervision and monitoring of the work activities of the Traffic Services Branch. Primary responsibilities include: to optimize the safe and efficient use of the street system through the installation and maintenance of permanent traffic control signs and pavement markings, temporary traffic control, and the manufacturing of traffic signs while managing the operational budget for the Traffic Services Branch.

**As the **_Superintendent, Traffic Services_** **you will**:

- Administer the installation and maintenance of all permanent traffic control signs.
- Administer the use and installation of all temporary traffic control devices for street maintenance, construction, utilities, block parties, railway crossing closures, special events, movies, etc.
- Administer the road marking programs consisting of longitudinal and transverse pavement marking.
- Administer the fabrication of all signs used for permanent installation and temporary traffic controls.
- Develop, manage, and monitor the Branch’s operational budget including expenditure forecasts and annual budget development.
- Manage the human resource activities within the Branch including staff recruitment, training, performance reviews, conflict resolution, discipline, workers’ compensation and attendance management.
- Administer programs and the procurement of materials and equipment.
- Represent the Branch/Division/Department as necessary with other departments, consultants, contractors, utility companies and the public respecting temporary traffic control, traffic safety and other related matters.
- Researches and recommends innovations in methodology, materials and equipment related to Traffic Services activities.
- Ensures compliance with Workplace Safety Health regulations as well as Departmental directives.
- Assists in the development of policies, standards and guidelines for the Division.

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- Diploma in Business Administration or Public Sector Management or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience including courses in accounting and supervision.
- Minimum four (4) years’ experience at a Foreman Level.
- Experience with traffic management and traffic control, including working knowledge of control and guidance of traffic in emergency/temporary situations.
- Experience in financial management.
- Supervisory experience in a unionized workplace.
- Working knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada, the Manual of Temporary Traffic Control in Work Areas on City Streets, Streets By-laws, and Highway Traffic Act.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work effectively under stressful conditions.
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
- Effective written communication skills with the ability to prepare reports.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external sources, in both team and leadership roles.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and the workplace safety and health regulations.
