Research Program Manager Mothering Transitions

The HeLTI Canada team is seeking a permanent Research Program Manager to join the Mothering Transitions Research Program at St Michael’s Hospital to conduct research-related management tasks in a longitudinal, CIHR-funded randomized controlled trial. This position encompasses the overall responsibility for the development and implementation of strategies used in the conduct of research, the development and implementation of new research within the institution, in addition to the general management of a Research Program. This position will be responsible for the financial and human resource management of the research program.
- Position must be flexible to work beyond the job description at times as work requires.
- Reports to Principal Investigator.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:
CLERICAL/SUPPORT 10%
- Coordination of research grant process
- Develop and/or authorize research study budgets and payment schedules
- Generation of personnel and payroll reports
- Associated scheduling functions such that staffing is maintained at efficient and optimal levels (including daily, vacation, and sick time coverage)

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES 40%
- Initiate and develop research proposals and protocols
- Adapt research findings to the development of new research studies
- Conduct administrative and technical research and contribute to professional publications, presentations, and posters
- Supervise general interim analysis of demographic, safety and efficacy data

MANAGERIAL 50%
- Responsible for training and supervision of Research Assistants and Coordinators, including ongoing updates of various research guidelines and regulations
- Develop and implement policies, procedures and standards for the research program
- Recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate research staff employed by the research program, including responsibility for payroll time entry
- Negotiate terms of financing with outside parties (hospital and industry based)
- Develop and negotiate research agreements and strategic alliances with outside parties
- Approve allocation of funds for unfunded research projects presented to research program
- Carry out duties of principal investigator, or co-investigator in research studies as authorized by the investigator and sponsors
- In conjunction with the Office of Research Administration, review of all confidentiality statements, legal disclosures, and legal documents
- Chair research group meetings
- Plan the long-term strategy of the program (projects, timelines, staffing, and resource needs)
- Participate in material management, inventory management, safety management, performance management and quality assurance.

**Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills**:

- Masters in related discipline or demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience
- Minimum 5 years experience with clinical trials
- Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills required
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload
