**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Water Supervisor, the Water Operator will carry out operations and maintenance duties associated with the Town’s water infrastructure, including collect representative plant and distribution water samples and perform laboratory tests for chlorine residuals, turbidity, color, pH, temperature and other sample collection and tests to make process control changes according to Ministry of Environment (MOECC) Regulations.

Water Operators undertake training and fulfill experience requirements as necessary to maintain Water Treatment and Water Distribution MECP (Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks) Certified Operator Licenses including attending courses as directed and passing written exams.

**What you will need**:

- Requires 2-year post-secondary diploma in a related field.
- Possess and maintain at a minimum valid Operator-In-Training certifications and be willing to obtain the certifications up to the same as the system, Class 3 Water Distribution License; and Class 2 Water Treatment License, within a reasonable timeframe.
- Minimum 1 year experience in a direct or related field required.
- Valid Driver’s license
- Thorough working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Clean Water Act and other related legislation are required to ensure compliant policies and practices.
- Must be prepared and able to work both indoors and out and in all seasons; weather conditions ranging from very cold to very hot and humid and able to work in an environment with exposure to chemicals (all required Personal Protective Equipment required is available and must be used).
- Skill in the operation of a variety of hand tools.
- Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions, make routine decisions independently, sustain long periods of light to moderately heavy physical activity, and work harmoniously with others.
- Basic knowledge and capabilities with computers.
- Knowledge of materials and equipment used in a full range of water treatment operations, maintenance and repair activities.
- Knowledge of methods and precautions in storing and handling a variety of chemicals.
- Knowledge of elements of construction technology as they relate to water treatment plant facilities and equipment construction, maintenance and repair activities.
- Knowledge of methods and precautions in storing and handling a variety of chemicals.
- Knowledge of functions and purposes of water treatment systems.
- Strong working knowledge of safe work practices.
- Ability to operate and maintain a variety of water treatment plant equipment.
- Perform and interpret standardized process control tests and adjust plant equipment and process appropriately.
- Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner.
- Strong problem-identification and problem-resolution skills.
- Able to create alternative solutions to problems.
- Excellent time management and project management skills.
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
- Effective leadership skills required.
- Strong academic ability and relevant technical knowledge.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

**What we offer**:
This is a full-time opportunity at the Town. The hourly rate for this role is **$29.19 - $34.17 **(2023 Rate).** The Town also offers the following to our employees:
